Another good company down the tubes. All I can say if you want one, hurry up and buy or get a used one. Unfortunately, unless the German govenemnt wakes up real soon, all the great companies from Germany will eventually come under the Chinese and dwon the tubes they go; producing crap at quality prices, no customer service and refusing to honor warranties.

Yes and the prices vary widely. You'll need to research this one yourself.

Never mind Hasselblads. How many other camera companies have their products manufactured in China or at the very least assemble them elsewhere in the far east from Chinese manufactured components? I don't hear anyone knocking Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Panasonic, Fuji, etc etc!

Those cameras are cheap throw-always! Would you buy a Chinese Rolex for $25K?
Come to think of it, I have...., but it was only $25 bucks!!! LoL

It's a misconception that the Chinese only build cheap stuff. Most of that comes from the fact that so many companies specifically have them manufacture shoddy items that they can sell for more profit. You will see that happen anywhere there is cheap labor and where companies have access to a large market that will accept a wide range of quality, such as the US. Many international companies have manufacturing facilities in China. Cummins, Caterpillar, GM, Ford, to name just a few and their Chinese products are built to the same standards as any products they build anywhere else. A few years back my wife's company had to go to China to get a number of very high end display cases built. No one else was available at the time to get them done on schedule. Once they understood what was wanted they did a fine job. The Chinese aren't stupid. They know that Hasselblad sells because it is a very high quality product. I doubt they will change that, although I wouldn't be surprised if they added a lower cost line.

Its a misconception that cheap products are made to increase profit. While there is such a thing as price gouging, cheaper products are mostly made to sell at a price point. Competition serves to regulate profit as a percentage of the selling price. A significant portion of the American market is more concerned with price point than quality. We can buy more stuff at lower prices and when things break, we just toss 'em buy more.

To quote Napoleon (about 200 years ago): "China is a sleeping giant. Let her sleep, for when she wakes she will move the world.” If you look at what has come out of China, Paper Making, Movable Type Printing, Gunpowder, The Compass, Alcohol, Mechanical Clock, Tea Production, Silk, to name but a few, they were never in the dark ages, they just chilled out for a long time! Look out, you ain't seen nothing yet, they're coming to your street even bigger time than hitherto, whether you like it or not. The world has a quaint way of moving on, for all sorts of reasons, take for example the Roman and British Empires, today's superpowers won't necessarily be tomorrow's, however much they think they will be.

If they're making them in China where the wages are next to nil, then they should be charging Chinese prices for the products.

The good thing is you won't have to get them from B&H anymore.
You'll be a le to pick one up at your local Wal-Mart!!!

You do know that when the wife says, "Go ahead and buy one", that it's a dare and not permission.

I think the "Blue light Special" is a K-Mart thing.

I used Blads years ago and their quality was untouchable! Like most, it became cost prohibitive to have an array of lenses and backs so again, like most, I went with the RB67. Used them for years but as a primarily wedding photographer, the weight and bulk became too much! I eventually went to the 645 Mamiya and never regretted it. Few customers ever want anything over an 8x10 so it was perfect for me. Even my parlor prints held nicely when I needed the size!

I would not worry about the cameras being made in China. If they were smart, they would keep the quality and drop the price drastically and start selling some products! Most photogs rent or lease Hasselblads now because of the scary prices! Even doing that is expensive! Great cameras and lenses but it appears to me that they went to China because they were losing their shirts trying to sell them for those insane prices! As a musician, I was recently hired by a group that uses Bugera tube amp heads. They cost a fraction of what others do and they perform excellently! They r made in China! Just saying...

To change the subject; I'm curious to what most of u r using for a drone. I still think it's a passing fad but some of my potential customers r asking me if I can shoot videos via drones. So I guess I'm going to have to take the plunge and invest in one. I bought an inexpensive only to quickly discover that flying one is frustrating without GPS and gimbals. Like every other grown man with the gadget disease, I'm fascinated by them in one sense but I don't need more dust collectors with a high learning curve! I'm looking at the DJI stuff but can't decide which model to go with. I think the Phantom 3 will match my needs but my friend has the 4 and the Mavic and swears by them. He shoots scapes of buildings, events, and some group stuff but I mostly do weddings and scenes. Your thoughts???
