The Chinese company DJI now has a controlling interest in Hasselblad.

I do not need a Hasselblad and in fact I never did. When I approached medium format I went with a Rolleiflex first and then a Zenza Bronica. I was very pleased with both not saying that Mamiya was not making excellent medium format bodies and lenses.
China makes some great products and I am sure under strict supervision and if that supervision reaches Hasselblad for bodies intended to be made there I foresee no problems.

It's a misconception that the Chinese only build cheap stuff. Most of that comes from the fact that so many companies specifically have them manufacture shoddy items that they can sell for more profit. You will see that happen anywhere there is cheap labor and where companies have access to a large market that will accept a wide range of quality, such as the US. Many international companies have manufacturing facilities in China. Cummins, Caterpillar, GM, Ford, to name just a few and their Chinese products are built to the same standards as any products they build anywhere else. A few years back my wife's company had to go to China to get a number of very high end display cases built. No one else was available at the time to get them done on schedule. Once they understood what was wanted they did a fine job. The Chinese aren't stupid. They know that Hasselblad sells because it is a very high quality product. I doubt they will change that, although I wouldn't be surprised if they added a lower cost line.

Does it necessarily follow that Hasselblad's will now be made in china?

I have used 'blads back in film days, they were jewels, but I liked using my Mamiya RB 67 better.
Doubt I'll ever use a medium format digital.

Assuming the price is right, absolutely would I buy a Chinese-produced Hasselblad. The Chinese know how to make stuff and are reasonably good at keeping up with shipping orders.

I would rather have a Leica S or a Phase One anyway.

I never bought (or can afford a Hasselblad) and I don't think I will buy a Chinese Hassy. However, for most people why not? People are buying Chinese cameras.

I would be willing to bet that a substantial proportion of components in existing Hasselblads are already made in China.

How many industry leading American camera companies are there?

Perhaps we need to accept that we live in a global economy!
