I can see jerryc41's point, any 365 challenge can become a chore. Though having said that, 'shooting openings' sounds like an excellent practice for 2017. My bigger challenge is getting out in the snow to do it. I guess there's lots of 'openings' in the house....

You know if you want to do it the easy way...

Prepare a set and everyday set a (otherwise unused) camera to take an image regardless if there is something in front or not.

There is shelve in my living room that has small figurines on it. Almost everyday my wife or I rearrange it differently. I do not mean in a specific way, just what ever suits our fancy or mood from meeting (around in circle) random, grouped by type to show division, I usually get one completely out when I see that and the like. Random, really.

My wife added one the other day so I had all the figurines on one side looking at the new one with suspicion...

I'm going to try a 365 project this year--don't know how successful I'll be, though. Shooting windows ( the real ones, not the program) seemed a bit restrictive to me, so I expanded my subject to openings, which lets me do doors, etc., too. I'm interested in the results you might have had if you've attempted such a project, and the subject you chose, if you restricted yourself to one. Any thoughts?

I'll bet I could do it, if it didn't have that darned 65 after that 3!!!! I have enough trouble just getting to work every day.
My attention span is extremely short.
Good luck though, it seems very popular with some. Just don't let it turn into, "I've gotta go out and just shoot anything, so I don't miss a day". That's probably time to quit!

Include your TV, radio, computer and the like. 'Opening' per say is not limited to physical stuff. Now how do you photograph a mind opening or even already open for that matter? How about the level of closure within an opening?

I was stuck in an hospital bed for months and the only thing I could see was a small square of sky. In it I saw clouds sometime a bird flying across, rain, leaves, weird stuff (drugs?). Anyway, that was my opening to escape and a window on life. Everyday it was different, color, content...

A friend of mine just finished here 365 project. Her photography has improved 500% and I can't believe how excellent some of her pictures are. She posted one photo every single day last year. Every single day.

I don't know if it will work for me, either, but I'm going to give it a try.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained... It will be an interesting experience, perhaps provide some motivation for getting out there with your camera. Just remember that if you miss a day for some reason, go back to it the next day. Or take a picture of your foot, hand, knee, whatever!

There is always something nearby that could be the subject of a photograph.

Good luck.

Here are some observations from my experience with a 365 Project:

(http://365project.org/toms365/365):

- I have begun to see better again. I see possibilities everywhere, even in
the smallest details. I find myself planning ahead to set up a shot. I might
see something that would make a good photo but the time, lighting, or
position might not be ideal. I will now take the time to go back and "do it
right". Sometimes I have an idea on a shot I want and am on the lookout out
for it. When going out be it to a restaurants or other short trip I often
have a shot preplanned in my mind.

- I now carry my camera out almost every time I leave the house. When I
don't and see something to shoot it's very frustrating.

- Even though I need to shoot every day, I strive to make that shot the best
I can, not just shoot something for the sake of shooting.

- At times I find it difficult to be imaginative around the house. When on a
trip to exotic lands there is no problem getting a good shot for the day. I
am running out of knick knacks. I find it interesting how much food,
vegetables, fruits, flowers, bottles and just everyday items really make
good photos.

- When I start a day with no idea what to shoot it amazes me how often
something will always appear. On the other hand I often find myself with
almost too much to shoot. I know the goal is to shoot one photo a day, but
on occasion I have uploaded additional shots that were taken earlier (this
does NOT mean photos from my archives). So I am uploading one shot a day,
maybe not just shot on that day, but the day before.

- My family now is on the lookout for subjects and will often recommend something to shoot.

- Family and friends now follow me and are always waiting for the latest. In
particular Bishop (the oldest grandson 7) looks every day and likes to read
the title and description.

- I enjoy following others. At times I try to make constructive remarks
which seem to be taken well. I actually wish more would criticize my photos!
I try to make them the best I can, but am always looking for improvement.

- I have found some interesting and informative items in the "Discuss",
"Blog", and "Browse" sections of the 365 Project web site.

I can relate to that. When I had my liver transplant, I was in for eleven weeks.
I thought about what you're saying when I decided to do this. There are openings of all kinds everywhere.

Posting one every day is quite a feat. Thumbs up to her.

I'm in trouble already--it's day two and I've already taken eight or ten.

Sounds like some good advice. I didn't even know about the 365 website.

Why do you think you're in trouble? I thought the rule was to have one photo taken each day to upload, didn't think it meant you couldn't take more than one! I seldom can take just one when I go out with my camera. So much to see, so many things to capture...
