Years ago while trucking through Texas late one night a bunch of us truckers got talking on the CB to a Texas trooper who was running along with us. We were kidding him about the little mid-size Chevy patrol cars they had at the time. Asked him if he thought he could catch us. "No problem!" he replied. "We got big guns and fast radios!"

You may be fast, but you can't outrun Radio !
(unless of course, you alter the space-time continuum to modify the dielectric constant of air)

OK - - I have a 7D (Mk-1)
Just 'upgraded' to an 80D (which will NOT work with my wide-angle Tokina 12-24)
7D works with the Tokina just Fine.
I was gonna sell the 7D for around $600, but since it would cost me that much to get a replacement wide angle for the 80D
I'll just keep the 7D with the Tokina mounted on the left hip, and run the 80D with the Canon 18-200 on the right hip.

If it sounds too good to be true, its probably a scam

What is the issue with your 80D and Tokina?

On shutter half-press the lens tries to focus, then I get the 'failure to communicate with the lens' error.
The lens has absolutely NO problems when mounted on my 7D.
This is NOT a dirty contacts problem - - rather it Must be an 80D firmware incompatibility.

Do you have the latest firmware?

There are no firmware updates for the 80D {but thanks for the thought}

My 5DIV has a firmware update put out for it to address some type of issue with 3rd party lenses. Perhaps something like this will be coming along for your 80D. Have you made Canon aware of the issue?

Good thought - - I did send a note to Tokina - - they have not replied. I'll check with Canon.
OK, I finally got the 7d. It's a mk1 with a 50mm USM lens, 3 batteries and a charger. I got it for $150.00.

Merlin, it's NOT a camera compatibility issue.
It's a lens compatibility issue.
There's a reason not to get 3rd party gear!!!

I say Potato, you say Po-tahto, and never the twain shall meet.
The Lens worked FINE with my 20D, 40D, and 7D
It DOESN'T work with the NEW 80D
So - - it's the Lens Problem? I rather think not.
Canon simply did not include its previous lens compatibility routines in the 80D.
That's certainly their prerogative - and a marketing ploy to punish those who prefer value to their name brand.
