I use an external USB reader... Never had a problem with any make of card.
For whatever it's worth according to my Nikon for Dummies. They say you should format new cards before use. I never have and so far they seem to work ok
SD cards should be formatted in the camera in which they will be used (not on your PC or Mac!!). Sage advice is to start each new session by formatting the card...has something to do with files numbering and such.
I have a card that said "write protected." Please tell me what that means and what can be done with it?

Turn off the write protection switch on the left hand side of the card.
Contact San Disk - they have replaced cards for me in the past...no questions asked.

Do a search to see if you can find any information on counterfeit SD cards. I've seen several articles on how to spot the difference.

I agree that they could be counterfeit cards. They will look like they are brand name cards, but it's totally dependent on how reputable the supplier is for the retailer. We have trouble with counterfeit parts all the time in the aerospace industry.
I bought the same at Costco for my D800e. No problems on camera and I use a card reader. However, I rarely offload from sd card as I set option to write jpeg to it. I off load the raw from the CF card.

I have been using San Disk SD cards for over 10 years, with the originals still in use and have not had a single issue or problem with them. All were biought through B & H. Maybe Cosco is selling seconds?
I too have been using Sandisk for about 10 years.
I have maybe 6 from when costco used to sell CF cards. None of thexCostco cards have ever had a problem.
Of the maybe 6 I've bought from B&H, 3 have corrupted after the 1st or second use.
Sandisk HAS replaced them but it's NOT no ?? Asked. They will replace them ONLY after corroborating the serial numbers AND only after receiving the corrupted cards.
I will say, I've asked them to at least compensate me for my trouble and they've sent me replacements that had twice the memory and twice the speed. I will keep using their cards.
I've never been able to recover any photos, but hey, there are lots more pics where THOSE came from!!!

Thank you all for your comments and thoughts. I contacted SanDisk to see if the card was authentic had to take a picture of the card front and back and include the serial number. It was in fact an authentic card. Went out to Micro Center and bought a external card reader and have not had a problem since, except when I'm done importing my photos I get a message saying that my card was not rejected properly, when if fact I never removed it. I don't know if that's problem or not but I remove the card from my desk top when closing out the program So I'm assuming that the on board card reader in my MacNotebook is the culprit.
I always format my SD cards in camera Nikon d750. If anyone decides to buy a card from Costco save the package. I was able to return the card no questions asked.
