That must be a really good camera.......

I gave a mounted and framed photograph to a co-worker that I took of her husband with 2 of their great grand-kids when they were visiting a few months ago. I do candid portraits of my own grand-kids & have gotten pretty good at it after a lot of trial and error and practice. She loved it and I'm sure she meant no disrespect when she said "that must be a really good camera". Bet I'm not the only one who has been on the recieving end of a 'complement' like this! :) :)
I'bet it wasn't a Kodak Brownie, though!
I too just say thanks. It is. Even if I am using my 16 year old Nikon D1x:)

People saying that is showing they don't understand nor know photography! Just laugh and let it go, no big deal!

That's like complimenting a chef that the fabulous meal just prepared was the result of a really good stove.
I wonder, why most of us think, that anything we do in photography is an "ART"?
Because it is not!
On the other hand, when you see a great looking garden, you don't say: "It must be a really good shovel", right?
Just take it easy and let uninformed people say whatever they like about your pictures but feel good when you know that your work is successful?
Guns kill people. Cameras take good pictures.

Oh yes, been there! As others have said, just consider it a compliment.

I heard a story about a photographer who attended a dinner party.
His work was admired and finally the host/cook remarked, "you must have a very good camera."
After dinner, which the host cooked, and as he left, the photographer complimented the host on the meal, adding "you must have a very good stove."

If all this is the case, I must be a great, and soon to be revered, photographer because I use a Nikon D4s! Yes, I think we've all heard this!
I once brought some photos into work to show a photography expert. He oohed and ahd and started going on about what great equipment must have been used. So I told him the truth: my 6 year old took them with a disposable camera. He never talked to me again.
Actually I rather hear that than if someone said "How do you get good pictures out of your piece of crap?"
Just a simple "Thank You and I like it" would have been acceptable to me.
