That must be a really good camera.......
I gave a mounted and framed photograph to a co-worker that I took of her husband with 2 of their great grand-kids when they were visiting a few months ago. I do candid portraits of my own grand-kids & have gotten pretty good at it after a lot of trial and error and practice. She loved it and I'm sure she meant no disrespect when she said "that must be a really good camera". Bet I'm not the only one who has been on the recieving end of a 'complement' like this! :) :)
Oh yeah, been there. I was told by a niece that "my camera" takes really good pictures. (Like it had no help from me.) I love this niece but the comment did sting a little.

Down here we normally say "bless your heart" in response to complements like that.... :)

I've heard it also. I take it in the spirit it was intended.
As they say, if you go to their place for dinner just remember to compliment at the end by saying "that was a great meal - you must have a real good oven!"
I just respond "It is a good camera. It does everything I tell it to". End of problem.

Now THAT is the perfect response. May I have your permission to use it?

One of the Hogs in the past posted "I love my Instamatic", when someone would say that. I guess that wouldn't make sense to anyone under 25 or so.

Happened to me a few weeks back. I had taken a picture of a Pelican to a framing shop to be framed. I was going to give it to my wife for a present. It was a picture that I was proud of because I really put some thought into the camera setup, the composition, lighting, etc. When the lady at the frame shop saw it she said essentially the same thing - nice picture, you much have a really good camera.
Once I was parked in my cute little VW Beetle directly over a leak from a hose nearby at a local store. I had that problem you get with those cars every now and then and needed to roll it down a hill to get it started. I went looking for another person to be kind and helpful and willing to help me push a small car. Some fellow came out and told me there was no need for me to try to crank my car...it was overheated and my radiator had leaked all the water and antifreeze out and I needed to let the engine cool down. He would not believe me when I tried to make him understand my problem and that a VW didn't have a radiator!!!! I finally got the car cranked on my own.
When someone tells me I have a nice camera...this being the digital age and all... I just tell them "I buy the best film ... it makes all the difference. Some look at me a little odd and some ...well, it goes right over their heads.
I know, there are those of you who still do film, but not with a small camera like mine!! :)
There was a time long ago when I thought a better camera was all I needed to make my photos look "professional". Obviously there's more to it than that - for many types of images, the camera isn't even all that important.
