That is cute. I know a professional "photography couple" whose wedding registry was for camera shop(s). They have tons of equipment today but tell me they buy used most of the time.

With the end of production, soon, on the 5d mark iii - will the price drop on the cameras in stock ??

When the 7DII was released, Canon (or at least B&H!) cut the price of the original 7D by half... Went from $1500 to $750 overnight!

When the 5DII was replaced it didn't fall much below $2000 and that is right about where the 5DIII is now. It really depends on the body and how well it continues to sell. The product cycle on the 7D was approximately 5 years. The 5D series is typically 3. Early adopters always pay premium prices and within 6 months it will drop 500 dollars.

The original price on a 5DIII was 3500 dollars in 2012. I bought mine for 2675 with a copy of Lightroom in 2014 from an authorized dealer. Nikon's typically aren't reduced nearly as much through their product cycle

That was a CAMERA, no Canon today is built like the F2. It was to compete with the Nikon F (1959-1969).

Nikon F was built well into the '70s. I have a '71 model. Some of the last ones were the modified "Apollo" versions. October '73 is noted as the last production run.

Funny, I've never read or viewed a report where the 5D III was rated better than the D810! Guess we see different reviews! You might want to take a look at this one by a known 5D III enthusiast: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VR7Kjeq2aH4&feature=youtu.be

BTW the 5D III is on sale: http://www.adorama.com/l/Cameras/Digital-SLR-Cameras?sf=Price&sel=Model_Canon-5D-Mark-III&term=canon-eos-5d-mark-iii&ShowMsg=t

I expect prices to drop a lot more when the 5D IV is announced.

FYI: The Canon 5D Mark III was the Popular Photography Camera of the Year for 2012 - beating out the Nikon D800. Since the D810 is a pretty minor upgrade to the D800, I think the 5D Mark III holds it's own quite well- especially among working professionals who prefer the controls of the Canon - and don't spend as much time pixel peeping.

No question that the 5D III is a fine camera and for sure some folks like how it handles and the images it produces. But it seems amazing to me that the fanboys denigrate all other cameras despite the proven fact, that the 5d III does lag the competition in certain areas, namely: resolution, dynamic range, shadow noise and auto-focus performance. To some, those shortcomings are acceptable, especially if heavily invested in the Canon system. However, perspective purchasers not married to Canon, would do well to evaluate their requirements before choosing. I have Canon, Sony and Nikon cameras and recently looked closely at the 5D III when looking for a new FF body. After doing some comparison shooting with a friend who has a 5D III, decided that, for my purpose, I'd be better served with a D810, as the limited dynamic range and lack of resolution (I like to crop a lot) in the 5D III was a downer for me. YMMV.

Canon will probably offer rebates. But if they time it right, all the mklll's will be gone at the release of the mklV.
After they are gone, the refurb will continue on until they are exhausted, maybe up to a year, then all sales will stop.
The mklll is one of the best cameras ever made as is evident by the fact that in EVERY mano a mano, real-world shootout between the mklll vs 810, in spite of the 810 being a generation newer, the Canon ALWAYS came out on top!!!!! Why would YOU put that camera on sale?!?! ;-)

SS - in Outdoor photographer a regular switched to a7rII after seeing that his students with the Sony sensor had much better files.

The heck with the controls...., I can get used to anything!!!
But let's get to the "meat and potatoes" of why pros use Canons. It's called, "more than 100 lenses"!!!!
You want a 200 f1.8...., you got it!!
You want an f1.2...., you got it!!
Heck, you want an f1.0...., you got that too!!!!
Having CPS don't hurt either!!
Can YOUR camera do that?!?! Of course not!

I don't want or need a 200 F1.8
I don't want or need a 50 F1.2
I don't want or need any lens with F1.0
What I do want is:
A camera with high dynamic range
A camera with low noise high ISO
A camera with a quiet shutter
Can YOUR camera do that? Of course not :D :D :D

Used Nikon and Canon for years.

Nikon has NPS, Canon has CPS.

Nikon has plenty of lenses (My goodness, do you need more than six or eight? You can only use one at a time!)

Canon's zooms ARE better, with no focus creep.

Nikons do have more DR, but in practice, no one cares! People can't see the difference from normal viewing distances.

You either like Nikon's menus or Canon's menus — not both. Same goes for ergonomics of the bodies...

The Canon folks have free software that is pretty good. Nikon users have to pay extra for the really good stuff.

There must be a hundred niggling little points like this, where one of them is intrinsically better or preferable to certain users for certain tasks.

In the end, they're just tools. As users, we have far more control over the impacts of our images than do the camera companies!

Me? I ditched Canon for Nikon for Canon AND Nikon for Panasonic. I got tired of lugging heavy cameras!

I shoot with both the 5D3 and the Nikon 800E professionally. The Canon is good, but the IQ can't hold a candle to that of the Nikon. The DR advantage of the Nikon is quite evident at normal print size as soon as you start to lift shadows, even at ISO 100. If you just post web images SOOC you won't see a difference, true, but beyond that the Nikon has capabilities lost to the Canon, as good as it is in so many areas.
