You can make a small fortune as a pro photographer-- provided, of course, that you start with a large fortune. (old joke but it still applies)

Funny. I used the same cather's mitt the pros used. It didn't make me a major league catcher.

I am by no means even a novice as far as my knowledge goes. I just enjoy getting out using my camera and trying to improve. which seems to be a very slow process. Made even slower by the fact that anyone with little or no knowledge won't ask a question for the next six months for fear of ridiculed, or made fun of. Just saying.

Your fear of ridicule is understandable, sad though it may be. Just like any other forum, you will find a) a wide variety of "opinions", often represented as facts, b) posers who have convinced themselves they are experts, c) flamethrowers making statements just to spark controversy, d) bullies who may or may not know their stuff, but whose priority is to show/convince us how right they are, e) fanboys whose allegiance to a brand is paramount, and f) true experts with lots of experience that understand their equipment and know the principles of capturing an image worth sharing, and possess the ability to explain the conclusions they have reached without belittling the novice.

My humble suggestion: watch a while, take note of patterns you discern, keep a salt shaker handy, learn your equipment (or try, at least), and when you need help, title your question in such a way as to attract the attention of those who feel they might be able to help, e.g., "Nikon autofocus issue", not "HELP!".

And Welcome to UHH!

I think that you are interpreting this as it's not meant to be. Most here will, and are very willing to answer questions .What I think that is being suggested here is people that have taken upon themselves to try and shoot a WEDDING and are asking what and how to shoot. Ex. settings, lighting ,where and how etc. The feeling here is if you feel you are good enough take on a wedding ,YOU should already know these. Wedding are a special time for the customers and are you comfortable in your skill enough not to ruin their memories? Answer: If asking questions like the mentioned above your saying NO and you shouldn't be doing them. I know, did that and it was a disaster.Lucky ,I was only doing it for myself and not the family. Never took my camera to a wedding again. Don't even take it to family gatherings. If I want portraits, wedding or family ,I hire.

Been taking pics for over 60 years. Got paid once -- 40 years ago. No-pro I. Even though I've gone thru film, p&s digital, and a couple of dslrs.
