I also think they're awesome shots. How long was the exposure, and was it a major challenge to get this good of a shot?

Wasn't To hard to get these shots because it was warmer out (+15 F ). I use a tripod and a remote shutter release. Most of the shutter times were between 5 sec and 25. Iso 4oo to 800. It Takes some trial and error to get the exposer right and depends on how bright the lights are. Also if the moon is out makes a big difference. I'm still learning how to get better shots and was a little disappointed in these. I use a Nikon d 300. Glad you enjoy them and hopefully I can get more before summer.

Great shots. Mind if I ask what lens, F stop, ISO and shutter speed got this great photo ?

oooh and aaahhh; I love them!
I realize what you are saying: that you are a tad disappointed because you wanted absolute perfection, but really, they are outstanding.

Been to Alaska a couple of times and missed them both times. Still plan on seeing these some day (in person). Thanks for the view. These are great shots.

Great shots! A friend of mine just got back from shooting them too. She was there Mar 7-13 staying about 20 miles from Fairbanks. Her weather wasn't quite as mild as yours(if you can call 15 degrees mild). It was 15 below where they were staying and it did create a few issues. She did love the experience.
singleviking-Actually I think next year is supposed to be the peak year of this particular series of flares so maybe you can make it.

The Northerh Lights you photogrphed are realy nice. I spent
a year in the Air Force, stationed in Iceland at Keflavik Airport,
and photographed the Lights there, and up there you feel like
you can reach up and touch them.
