Agreed. It seems like it would (just about) remove the need for a skilled photographer.

Composition and position are the real name of the game.

So where do the manual shooters fit into this technology?
Will they take all this tech and just turn it off?
Will it have video?
Or will they just all fall for whatever gimmick is out that looks like an old camera?!
Because they don't need no steenkeen post-focus baudges!

Lytro concept has been around for about five years. Until you see evidence of shipping product, I'd avoid excitement.

Need a camera? Go get one!

Rumors are going around that very soon a new generation of DSLR and other cameras are coming out with a new system that can focus after you shoot just in case you shot before you got your camera focused. If it is true it would be great especially shooting sports or nature when sometimes you have to shoot fast. I am personaly waiting to see. Has any one else heard of this?

This already advertised on TV

Wow! Won't that take a lot out of the challenge of getting good photos? That's part of the fun although very frustrating at times! :)

Those cameras have been around for a few years now, the Lytro I think it's called. It's the third generation by now, so it's not anything really new.

When all the problems are gone to automatic-land, then why are we photographers needed. Composition? What would else exists?

Some large newspapers have already got rid of their photographers and require their reporters to take over for them.

Don't wait for the LYTRO's....They just closed out a bunch of them on the WOOT site... That usually means they are not an overwhelming success...The concept is sound, but it may be something that is more of a novelty than the next great breakthrough in photography.

Anything that requires post processing is suspect in my book. I only want post-processing as an option, not a normal workflow.
