Rumors are going around that very soon a new generation of DSLR and other cameras are coming out with a new system that can focus after you shoot just in case you shot before you got your camera focused. If it is true it would be great especially shooting sports or nature when sometimes you have to shoot fast. I am personaly waiting to see. Has any one else heard of this?

Isn't this the Lytro camera concept - so-called light field photography?

http://www.dpreview.com/articles/5591433745/lytro-announces-illum-light-field-camera

Certainly fascinating but not gong to replace DSLRs (or EVILs) any time soon.

"In addition to the 8X (30 – 250mm) zoom lens, it has a constant f/2.0 aperture, 1/4000 shutter, and a four-inch backside touchscreen display."

Interesting. No mention if that lens is a 35mm equivalent or what size sensor it has.

He puts the sensor at between 7.5 and 10.5mm on a side, similar to those used in high-end compacts.

Lytro’s blurb lists the resolution of the camera as “11 megarays.”
not megapixels

So it's a bit bigger than a 1" sensor (Nikon J1)

" “11 megarays.” That makes it sound like something Ming the Merciless would unleash on the world."
Gotta love the Flash Gordon reference!

I need a subscription to Wired.
Been reading a loot of excerpts from that publication lately.

It would be helpful if you posted links to the rumors you heard so we're all reading the same, but for now we'll assume along with you.

The Lytro is an amazing piece of technology
http://www.lytro.com

But Intel is working on a similar technology with its Depth Camera
http://iq.intel.com/new-embedded-tablet-camera-enables-cool-post-photo-effects

There are differences between the two of course, technology has a trickle-down effect on the market.
