Hi, I went from 40D to 7D for sports shooting. I now get shots with 7D I never could get with 40D. If it's mostly for sports you can't do better than 7D. Have fun and keep shootin'. Mike

I have a couple of 5d mark II's and love the full frame. If you can, I would go to the full frame or wait a little longer and see what comes out soon with Canon.

I am looking at an upgrade. My heart was set on the 7D due to the newer technology and faster fps. Now I am getting drawn in to the Full Frame bodies. The 7D and Mark II are fairly similar in price as I want to stay under $2K.

I shoot about 30% sports so want the faster fps and other 70% is split between Architecture/Landscape photography and Portraits.

I own all EF "L" lenses from Canon-- 16-35 L, 24-105 Macro L IS, and 70-200 L IS f/4.

Is the older technology of the 1DS Mark II worth it to get Full Frame vs Crop Sensored 7D or is the newer technology of the 7D better?

Any thoughts would certainly be appreciated.

Jeff

Hi jwegge11: Although this does not directly address your given options between the 1DS MarkII and the Crop Sensored 7D..... I may be just a little bias because I own the 5D markII and believe it to be a great full frame camera. I have seen them on line for around the $2000 price point you mentioned. The major draw back to one is the fact they will only shoot at 3.9 fps and because you mentioned that you intended to use the camera shooting sports about 30% of the time that is one thing to consider. For the technology of the camera I just updated the firmware on mine I don't know what they will add to the Mark III but you can certainly count on them being expensive. Which should drive the price of the 5D MarkII even farther that is has. I don't know how much more advanced the 7D's technology is over the 5D MarkII's or if there is that much difference in that area between the two.... Just food for thought.
