Without doing research, I think the 5D uses the Digic lll processor while while the Mark ll uses the Digic lV. Maybe someone can help out with more info. I also have a 40D which I purchased used last year and like it a lot. Mark ll remains my dream camera for weddings. Last time I looked into getting an older 5D used version, they were going for around $1100 - 1250 in these parts. Great camera for 1/2 the price of a new Mark ll. Decided to stick with with smaller sensor for now and picked up the 40D.

Review says the 1DS Mk-II will catch 4 FPS in JPG
The 7D will catch 8 FPS - - important for sports

Also - on the FF 1DS, your lenses will be shorter AND any vignetting you might get at full zoom will be more noticeable. You'd have to re-learn all your lenses on the 1DS, while the 7D would be a natural crop-sensor migration.

Plus - the 7D does incredible video.
I think I've seen many reviews confirming that for sports - go 7D
For Landscape, go 5D Mk-II.

Although just a rabid hobbyist - I traded in my 40D for the 7D and remain blissfully happy.
