Yeah I know that and indicated it in my comments. But as I said, how many will bother to go back and look at all the entries again and change their vote? Very few I expect.
Again, this favors early entries and penalizes later ones.
Having a seperate voting phase start only after the end of submissions would still allow for anyone changing their minds during voting. Plus it would be more fair to all who entered.

All contests in other photo forums such as dpreview are certainly not structured this way with voting allowed right from the start of submissions. If they are always done this way in UHH maybe that's part of the reason why the whole contest section has unraveled and largely fell by the wayside as of late.

Something to consider, that's all.

Note taken into consideration. And if you would like a further answer on this go back and reread the whole thread I think you will find the answer.

I would just like everyone to know that I have now closed the entry part of the contest. I am very pleased that I was able to keep taking entries after the massive amount we got within the first couple of days. I am sorry I did have to close the contest off early, but I will leave voting open through the 21st like I had originally said. I think this will give everyone the opportunity to look over all the photos and vote for their favorite. So please go vote!

It's a shame that voting was enabled while the contest was still in the submission phase.
As it is now, it's not necessarily true that the best photo will get the most votes. It's much more likely that the earliest entries will get the most.
Since most have already voted, this puts later entries at a severe disadvantage.

To be fair, once the contest is full and no further entries are allowed, all vote counts should be reset to zero, and voting should begin anew.
Yes I know voters can go back now and change their votes but how many will really do that? Once most have voted, that is it, end of story.

I would do that, if needed, no problem

Was there any reason why the deadline of 4/18/12 changed. I thought I had until the 18th to submit. Maybe next time I will submit as soon as I see it posted.

I did not know that I had to limit the amount of entries when I started the contest. I was told by Admin I had to limit the number of entries so I didn't go over the limit the system is capable of handling. I do apologize for this, but I also want to be able to host contests in the future so I am following orders by Admin. I do plan to host contests in the future with different time amounts and rules, so you should have a chance in the future to enter.

Good Morning fellows. This is Tea8s' contest. Stop all the blathering and either submit the way she said or don't. No comment needed. Sorry, love you all, but knock it off.

I agree. The contests are not mandatory, like any contest you read the rules and either enter or don't. I joined the group recently hoping it would be a friendly discussion if photo ideas and help.I see a lot of nit picking like in here about the contest. I hope to enter this one and will abide by rules even if I have to out and shoot in both modes.

Ok, I am setting up a new wildlife contest.

Rules:
1. All photos need to be pretty much out of camera.

Tea8, congrats on the new contest.
I have a suggestion about rules, as it would level the playing field.
The "Photographic Society of America"(PSA), which governs member clubs all over the US and the world, has guidelines in place for the genre of Nature(wildlife).
You may view that hose guideline as follows:
Go to the Photographic Society of America website.
Just to the right and below the logo, click on "divisions".
On the list on the left, click on "nature".
Scroll down below the picture of the division chair and click on "Division information".
Then click on bullet, "Definition of Nature Photography".
Afterward, I also suggest a look at the bullet below it, "code of practice".

Tea8, those rules are accepted for nature contest all over world. It's an easy way to answer any question or personal philosophy that comes up, without you having to make personal calls, that then make you the bad guy playing to some but not others.
Nature is a lot like journalism, as some PP is allowed, but not a lot.
Please give this some consideration. And maybe someone much smarter than me can post a direct link, if it's something you can use. Good luck. ;-)

Well I will keep this in mind if I ever decide to have a new contest. Since this one was over almost two years ago now it's a little late, but St3v3M may like to know since he now runs the contests and has chosen Wildlife for this weeks contest.
