Is there a NO in the house? I did a quick skim and didn't see any! How can there be a debate on pp if there is no one on the other side?

Just a thought, but maybe they don't want to be in the minority. Altho in the thread which initiated this thread, one such naysayer to pp was caught with his proverbial pants down...lol

When I saw this post this morning, there were 25 pages of comments - way too many to review. My question is, what is the point of the post? You won't change anyone's mind about how they approach their photography and post processing decisions. It's a waste of time.

A 7 page (and counting) "debate" about the merits of "getting it right in the camera" versus post-processing to achieve the desired image has been accumulating at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-193013-1.html. Here are two very simple questions. Please answer yes or no plus the name of the software you prefer without commentary.
1) Do you perform any post-camera processing of your digital photos: yes or no?
2) If you answered yes, what is the name of your preferred primary post-processing software?

I'll total the answers up tomorrow.

At this point I am just as curious to see what the most used post software packages are as I was to see how many did post processing or not.

I obviously can't speak for Dave, but the impression I got was the object was not so much to try to change anyone's mind as it was to understand the mind set of members towards post processing.

It seems that there are a lot of different preferences for which software to use for image editing and I suspect in many cases the choice had as much to do with chance as with anything else. In my own case, I tried several programs until I found one (Paint Shop Pro, then by Jasc) that I liked and I've stayed with it for 12+ years. Is there some other program out there that I'd find better? Perhaps, but I don't know which software that is and more importantly I don't know why it would be better.

I'm not opposed to using different software but I have to be convinced that it is worth the cost, time and effort to learn something new. With all of the expertise available through this forum we should be able to help each-other decide whether some other software is worth expending that kind of effort. What would be helpful would be to step beyond just saying we like and use software X and software Y but to say why we especially like that software and why someone else should take the time to look it over.

I made a similar suggestion in an earlier comment ( http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-185840-1.html#3149629 ) that I'd like to repeat here. In that comment I reviewed PSP X6 and compared it to Raw Therapy (which I'm still evaluating).

A part of me wondered if this was just an experiment to see how many could follow directions, i.e. no commentary.

I certainly was guilty of that, Steve, but I have repented, and hopefully, mended my ways!
