Hi--nice shots! I like the b/w cropped version of #1. The second one of the catch and umpire might be better in b/w also. One thing that is very good about b/w has do do with reducing the distraction of unwanted areas. That works so well in the cropped 1st example. Ido like the incrase in contrast also. Try the 3rd photo in b/w and see if it is easier to focus on the players(Ump or no Ump.) They are very good subject matter and I like that they are story images also. The 1st one with the caption really kicks b__!

Great post. I think all the versions of your B&W's came out fine, although the cropped version does seem to work best.
The cropped version of "Safe!" really made that picture as the "Ball-In-Flight" was completely lost (at least to me) before the crop. Once the ball was introduced, the story made perfect sense. That was a really fantastic capture by the way. Nice timing. :)
As a side note, when shooting sports like baseball, you may want to look at shooting some shots in burst mode (i.e. the camera takes 3 or more captures at a time when the shutter is depressed). This can help you consistently catch elusive timing shots where multiple subjects are moving simultaneously. Should be no problem with your D7100.

Nice shots. Maybe think about lowering the camera a bit next time so you get more of the subject and less of the background.

Beautiful set, at first I wasn't sure what I was looking at, it looked almost like a miniature set initially. Good job, both versions!!!

Great shots for first time in public or not! You've heard all the suggestions
lower the camera to reduce unwanted space, up the contrast, lighten the faces
it could go on and on forever! The more images you take, the better your odds. But as you get better, you'll not need to take as many in order to get such good results. I loved how you eventually cropped the first one. All 3 boys are important to the image
and it tells a wonderful story. But if you were so inclined, you could take it one step further. If it is tack sharp, you could crop the boy on the left out, and get a really intense photo of the other two. I love the mouth hanging open of the center boy. I might even lighten the face of the middle boy ever so slightly. If you post it again and click on the box "store original" then I could show you what I mean. Super job!!

I love the B&W! The last one not so much although I am not sure why, perhaps the clutter in the background distracts from the subject. A little tighter framing may have helped as well.
