55mm is no way a long enough reach to get to the moon. 400mm would be better suited f/11,iso 100, 1/6ss, -2ev, tripod, mirror lockup, manual focus. !39,000 + miles away.

Correction: 250,000 Miles from Earth - ( 1/4 of a million ) miles... Give and take a few

ever notice that most shots of the moon only show crater depth at the edges? mine too, but I wonder why. Is it a lighting thing, or focus. Haven't figured that out yet...

Exposure Time = 1/60"
ISO = 250
F Number = F16

I'm guessing it's because the Moon is so bright, 250,000 miles and moving. The Lens is pushed to the max at 300mm I should have backed off to 280mm,(daylight shade) slow shutter speed and stopped at /16 to save some detail. It was underexposed and I tweaked the Auto Correct in MS Office Picture Mgr.
Question: What settings and tweaks do you use???

Hi arkitekt2,
I started in photography before Lightmeter where in camers I had to learn exposure by lighting conditions. Basic exposure on a bright sunny day is F-16 with the shutter speed set to the reciprocal of the ISO.
Because the moon is lit by the sun your exposure should be 1/200th of a sec. at F-16 or F-11 with ISO set at 200
Focus on Infinity
Exposure will change slightly with different lenses This should be a good starting point.
Hope this is helpful.

Thanks JW Smith
That sounds like a good rule of thumb.
In my shot did my shutter speed get pushed down because of the 2x teleconverter

This guy has got it right. Except, I'm not a fan of ever using mirror lockup. Not sure how far away the moon is, don't care as long as it stays where it is. The important thing, manual focus and a tripod.

The Earth's moon is 250,000 ( or 1/4 of a million miles) miles away from Earth.

1/5 of a second??? No wonder it is unrecognizable. The moon's reflected light is actualy more than adequate for a fast shutter speed.
