After reading most of the thread 'I will never understand people's egos' I thought it would be fascinating to find out how many professional photographers frequent this forum?
For this discussion let's define "Professional" as anyone who currently earns at least 25% of their income from photography.
If you didn't know already I am NOT a professional, nor any other kind of photographer. I am still just a picture taker.
Add one to the no column.

Make that 2 for the no column...
I make a few bucks once in a while working with my daughter's production company but not even close to 25%. I've sold a few stock photos but if I had to live on what I make or made, I'd be using food stamps. So I guess I'd be in the no column.
Look at my web-site. I gave up my last salaried job just before Christmas '82 -- and I'd been earning some or all of my income from photography and writing since the mid-70s.
And yes, I'm just a picture taker too. Well, that and a writer. But I illustrate most of what I write, with photographs...
Cheers,
R.
Right now photography is my sole source of income besides rental units, but I do not consider myself a "Pro". (My insurance won't let me do that....LOL)
Strictly "picture taker" for fun.

very very few. we have one really experienced helpfull and great pro in i believe his screen name is photoartLA. most pros are on photographycorner.com popphoto.com nikonians.com and web sites specifically for professionals. This site is mostly ameateur, with alot of people with less than a couple years expirence. Even though ive been shooting for 43 years as a hobby, i still learn new things from new people. especially in areas of photography i don't have much expirence in.
My answer has to be the craziest of all, because YES, I do make 1/4 of my living with photos, but NO, I am NOT by any means, a photographer. I'll explain.
I am an artist. Since 1993, I have painted pictures of people's horses & dogs and made their Christmas cards from those pictures. I also photograph some of their pets and use a photo program to enhance and design them with a Christmas theme (I also make blank note cards for them). I do sell a lot more of the hand painted (&printed) cards, but some of my customers want some of both, the paintings and the photos. I sell them to people in all the states and 5 other countries, but it still doesn't come close to being a pro photographer, still just an artist. Pet portraits are a huge deal, because if there is anything that will make people happy,(next to putting their children/grandchildren on their cards) it's seeing their pets on their own greeting cards.
25% isnt high enough of income too be a pro...should be 99%
and not waiting tables to buy camera equipment.....

Not a pro here either, my skills and knowledge are no where close to being where they need to be to even consider taking on clients and charging money.
No pro here, but I have sold a picture or two and I have a few published (free gratis) in a book and some magazines that no one here will probably ever read and they were definitely just snapshots.
There are several people on here that are not professional, but are professional in the quality of their photography and their knowledge.
