very very few. we have one really experienced helpfull and great pro in i believe his screen name is photoartLA. most pros are on photographycorner.com popphoto.com nikonians.com and web sites specifically for professionals. This site is mostly ameateur, with alot of people with less than a couple years expirence. Even though ive been shooting for 43 years as a hobby, i still learn new things from new people. especially in areas of photography i don't have much expirence in.

Yes, I would say I'm a pro. I have been published worldwide, have shot just about everything imaginable, have owned studios and professional (chemical) labs, and have been a Director of Photography on award winning films, not to mention being a Certified Steadicam Operator and Tyler Helicopter Mount operator. Pardon me for tooting my horn, but I do hang out here once in a while just to help.

I'm retired and don't make any money from working anymore ... so I'm definitely not a pro ... however I do spend 25% on photography so does that make me a con ? LOL

Based on your observation, I would guess that many here are "cons" but LOVE what they do!!

I am a professional and much enjoy this discussion forum. I see a lot of so called amateur photos posted that in my view should and deserve to be published. I also belong to various pro forums and don't enjoy the "snooty" attitude that some present but they do provide some great technical insight. However the stigma of "professional' as related to photography to me is a moot point. I believe photography is an art form and everyone should just enjoy the craft at any level and with any level of equipment. CJ7

I totally agree. MANY of the photos posted here appear more "professional" in their quality than many published pictures! There are probably more "ProQuality" amateurs than "ProQuality" pros!! LOL!!
Then there is the category that takes pleasure in talking very poorly about other peoples pictures and get upset when people disagree. Therefore I enjoy LOOKING but very seldom comment or post anywhere.

Yes, about 60% of my annual income is from photography. 95% of my photography is sports. I joined this forum to expand my skills in the 5%. I enjoy reading and sharing on UHH. IMHO, being a "Pro" has more to do with marketing and sales than technical skill with your camera. MANY of you have the photography skills to be pros, as evident by the beautiful examples posted daily. Everyone has room to improve. Just never let it become work. Enjoy what you do whether it is for income or not.

Sounds like a REAL Pro with a conscience! Thanks for your support and input to the forum.

After reading most of the thread 'I will never understand people's egos' I thought it would be fascinating to find out how many professional photographers frequent this forum?

For this discussion let's define "Professional" as anyone who currently earns at least 25% of their income from photography.

If you didn't know already I am NOT a professional, nor any other kind of photographer. I am still just a picture taker.

Hey, don't cut yourself down like that. If your taking Mug Shot
there your a shooter. If you bend a knee, think about
the shot before hand, frame it and adjust you f/ stop, shutter speed or
ISO, then you are not just a shooter.

Anyway I'm the only Shooter around here.
And I try each day to be more, maybe even a
artist.
