if the lens is a FD no it wont fit if EF lens then yes it will fit

Yes, if the lens carries the designation EF.
Canon offers two 35mm lenses: one has a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and the other has f/2.
For the f/2 lens, the information on the lens reads: Canon Lens EF 35mm 1:2.
For the f/1.4 lens, the information on the lens reads: Canon Lens EF 35mm 1:1.4 L.

Well if that 35mm lens is EF or EF-S yes it will work. That doesn't mean you'll have all the functions you would with current lenses but the mount will work.
Since I own an XS I know it takes what all other Rebel cameras take.

Hey Pat,
I shot for years with an AE-1 program and have a lot of lenses that are not doing me any good now that I have a t2i. Where can I get an adapter to use these and do you know what the cost might be?

Actually, they changed their mount when they went to auto-focus(from FD to EOS). If the lens is designated EOS it will fit your Canon dslr. As technology changes, some of the features of the lens/camera combination may not be the same, but any lens labeled EOS will work in some manner on your dslr.

It's interesting with Canon. EOS started out meaning
Electronic Optics System and as the years went by it just
became a sort of logo for their cameras.
Not all EOS cameras are EF or EF-S lenses however. L lenses that don't fit the Rebel line are still EOS so be careful with the differences in the two styles of lenses.

A quick look at lens and body - If both the lens and body have a RED dot- (to line lens up to the body for use-) then they will be totally compatable... For EOS bod and lens...

Correction: EF lenses fit all EOS cameras.
EF-S lenses fit only the EOS cameras with the cropped sensor (the Rebel line). These EF-S lenses have been designed to work with the cropped sensor.

I started out with a Cannon Rebel 35mm I moved all the lenses to my 20D and then they all work with my 50D with out the need for a adapter.

some will with an adapter it will be manual only but if it is before certain year it wont will try to get over to the camera gallery an find out again

Got to add to this - I have 2 sigma lenses and 1 canon lens - the canon lens lines up red dot to red dot. The sigmas have a white dot and that will be almost to the top before the lens fits in.
