I had mine done at Moo.com. I'm very happy with them.

I would like to make notecards using some of my photos. Any suggestions on a site to use in ordering them from. Or any other ideas on the best way to do this?

If you know of the great quality that Costco has with their printing. I would not print from home with how much ink costs. I myself volunteer for local Audubon at the fair, have for many years so ea. year get new pictures printed for a couple albums to take down with me to the booth. Great quality. You could purchase blank cards and then double sided tape and mount the pictures to the fronts of the cards. Hope this is a good idea for you as some might not think of using the double-sided tape.

The quality varies widely. Really depends on the abilities/training/diligence/caring of the operators. And the calibration/maintenance of the printers.

I have three in my area. Two of them, I won't go near again for prints. The third is pretty good.

I LOVE Photographer's Edge. They have everything, from the casual sending of nice photos in a pretty card to packaging your own sets and displaying them. Their photo cards look very professional and could serve as matted photos to be framed. My only problem with them is that the choices are endless. They offer sample packages for sale which are well worth the investment; for example, the set that includes all their colors.

Do you mean greetings cards - ie folded as in birthday cards etc?

I have had many printed now.

There are many online - I first checked online and thought I had found the ideal company and got 500 for £18 as it appeared a good price point. I had gone through all the ordering information carefully but being unfamiliar with 'printer talk' I mis-ordered and got prints like a photo - or postcard.

Checking with my new knowledge I found that I would need to order at least 100 (all one print) for a reasonable price and they would be expensive still. 500 would come to around £56!

So I checked out a local printer and he said he would charge £0.45 for an A4 sheet any quantity. This gave me 2 off A5 cards when he had cut and folded them. Since then I have had many more printed and he charged me around £0.30 per sheet.

I got 500 quality A6 envelopes from a company on Ebay for about £16. So recently, total cost per card and envelope has been around 3.5p.

I did have to experiment and adjust print size to allow for a trim off area which reduces the cards to a little under A5 - but it is not really obvious. i have produced perhaps 50+ different cards now and the benefit of a local printer is that you can discuss your requirements and have as many or few as you require.

If printing a large number like Christmas cards I use IPhoto printing through Apple or Shutterfly. For individual cards I print them myself on Red River card stock using PrintShop.

Thanks for all the ideas. I used to use MS publisher, but I'm on a Mac now and that option isn't available.

Where you purchase the cards you choose, note cards, thank you cards, etc. you can check with Staples, in their printing area, they have templates you can choose to suit your needs. Depending on the your time factor, and the work load you can usually customize the cards, and pick them up the same day if you start early.
You can also take a look at MPIX they offer a wide variety of cards and notes.
You can also take a look at Easy Digitals, Kim Kunkel has a variety of templates and you can sign up to receive her new letter each month and receive free templates. She has great templates and yes there is a thank you note template so you can download the template free and customize the template to send as a thank you to customers. Her templates are easily used and if you get stuck she has tutorials that are available on her YouTube pages that will help you easily use not only the freebies but the templates she has for sale.

You might try Staples online. I had some postcards made at Staples about 6 months ago. Use your own photo for the front and design your own back or leave the back blank. The post cards I received were of excellent quality. Looked just like the ones you might purchase downtown.

Lots of great ideas and info! I use the cards at Michaels, photo mount tape, and use a clear printed large return address label on the back with company info. I buy different colors and mix them up with contrasting colors. I usually hand sign cards to give them that , " signed by the artist" look! We do many cards still in this area, sympathy, thinking of you... They sell well at the Farmers Market, our Art Guild and festivals. I do have some regular customers that I usually give new releases to for gifts. Good luck on your venture!
