These are my winter roses. This was taken early in the morning last December. I forgot the 1/3 rule..lol I just get so excited using the Macro.

Cat, welcome and very nice shots for the most part..if you want to see what settings were used right click on the picture and then click on properties..it should tell you most everything about the pic

I would suggest that your images could be vastly improved with a good editing program so you can bring out detail and sharpness particularly shadow detail. Here are some of my examples. Happy snapping.

hey Rich my apologies for not answering sooner, for some reason I thought you were adressing your question to the origional poster, Dang this middle aged brain. :lol: It ha sbeen a while since I took that shot but what I remember is that it was in a garden and the changing colors are from other flowers with my usinf a small f stop number to generate a small depth of field to throw background out of focus. My apologies for my middle aged moment. As the philosopher once said youth is wasted oon the young. :!:

When you post there is a spot at the bottom where you can choose up to three files to attach. Just click on "choose file" navigate to the folder where your keeping your photos and choose the photo you want to post. And thank you for the complements.

That was taken at sunset in the high dessert mountains outside of San Diego. It is the remains of a Manzanita bush that went through a devastating fire several years back. There was something about the look of the branches and the light that caught my eye.

What helps is to determine what your subject is - eg. the purple flower or the bug on the flower. If it is the bug, that is the area you want in sharp focus and that critter could be somewhere on the "rule of thirds" guide line; is it the entire flower or the stamen or a particular leaf. I hope this helps! Supposedly, I have been told, a radial flower is often centered and tightly photographed. I am fairly new to this hobby (passion) of mine but this is what a professional suggested at a workshop I took with him. And PRACTICE, PRACTICE............
