I know when I go out to shoot what I am looking for. I have a plan in mind. I am not sure if my pictures are decent or I just like what I am shooting. I know the 1/3 rule, but is it always in effect. I do like my macro.

When I saw your flower shots I actualy said wow outloud. Very impressive. First off the only person whose opinion matters about your photos is YOURS. Remember the rules of photography are just like the Pirate Code, they arent so much laws as more like guidelines. Its not like the popphoto swat team is going to crash through your living room if you violate the rule of thirds. " Hey lady. put down the tripod and come with us. No wait thats the mattress police if you remove any mattress tags. here are a few of mine. You need to know the rules so you know when you can break them.

Thank you. I have been looking at your photos and they are awesome. Lately it seems all I do is get up close and personal.....seems like it calls to me. I try and try, I read and read but it is like a foreign language to me, shutter speed, aperture all that good stuff. When I look at these pics it clicked for me.:)

dont give up you have talent can I suggest two books that had a massive impact on my work? They are both from amphoto press by Bryan Peterson. The first is "understanding exposure" This will explain all about fstops shutter speeds and iso. It will teach you not only how to get the correct exposure but also the most creative exposure. The second book is called "learning to see creatively" This book opened my eyes to a universe of subject possibilities. For example I now shoot potholes for their ability to show pattern and texture. You should be able to find either book at books a million or barnes and noble. By the way thank you for complimenting my photographs. Itt is always nice to be apreciated.

pot hole or art?

the bee shot was with my Cannon PowerShotsx100. I was trying out the settings and this one blurred the background with the Macro. I don't know what does what yet.

I know the first thing I was told was practice practice practice. I recently purchased a Cannon Rebel. I have always come back to my digital for lack of knowledge on the manual.

Your middle photo is very interesting. The shallow depth of field goes from blue to green from right to left. How did you do that?

Picasa has a watermark when you export your folders. I also read on here from a member whose friend made a photo program. There is a watermark option with one of those. I am checking it out now, looks very promising. try faststone.com

My camera has manual and Macro focus. I have other settings like night shots, landscapes, portraits, fireworks and like 6 others I have no clue what they are. I do take pictures with each setting but by the time I get home I have forgotten what did what. I have learned when using Macro stand 5-7 feet away from subject then zoom in....so much clearer.
