Of all the time I didn't have the smartphone the only thing I miss was the GPS. I have the Garmin stand alone GPS but I prefer to use Google Maps.

Our Tom-Tom does well, but when it's my wife's turn to drive on trips I like to occasionally peruse Google maps on the phone or tablet. Satellite views come in handy.

I used to not having a smartphone and it would mean I can't order in that restaurant.

So many electronic devices need a phone to activate them. My TP-Link Mesh Wi-Fi had to be activated with my phone. Kind of a nuisance.

Well I circumvent that by using an android tablet but it doesn't solve the GPS problem.

You see I don't mind paying for the new phone but to switch from 1 smartphone and 1 dumb phone which was $80 a month to 2 smartphones it would be $160 a month. So I don't really want to pay that $80 a month extra. Buying the phone is not a problem for me. I just hate having to pay monthly.

When I got my new phone, buying it was not an option, only a monthly addition to the bill.
And I cannot pay off the balance, it remains monthly for the term.

That's why I like buying from TracFone - generally under $50.

But only because I bought a $50 Moto e from TracFone. I got an email from Samsung a couple of days ago. Prices ran from $550 - $950. Not for me!

Don't buy the latest model. Last year I bought a brand new US 2020 model unlocked Samsung S20 on Amazon for under $200. It's a great phone in a perfect size for me with wireless charging, 5G, and Samsung's final model to have a memory card slot so that the phone will never fill up no matter how many photos or songs, etc., I put on there.

I went from the S-III to the S-21, skipping all in-between.
I only got the S-21 because the S-III would no longer work as a phone starting 1/1/22.
(or was it 1/1/23) and the OS was no longer being updated, so the app operation was going to get iffy.

I have to pay the same monthly for the service whether I have the Samsung S20 or S23. It's the monthly bill that I hate. Paying for the new S23 is fine.

Dang, they changed it. I'm glad as I would rather pay for the phone in one payment also.

I bought my Samsung phone directly from Samsung. I chose an unlocked phone which gives me the option of using any carrier. I've switched twice.

I had an old, cheap Cricket phone. I kept trying to scan the codes with no luck. Then I got a new cheap Cricket phone and it scans them fine and no extra cost.
