I've never been able to scan a QR Code. When I was shopping yesterday, a clerk gave me his card to rate him online. To do so I have to scan the code. Taking a picture of it doesn't do anything.

Some phones need an app to scan the QR code.
I think my Galaxy phone camera recognizes them, asks if I want to visit the web site.
My wife's phone had to download a QR reader.
I have a QR code on the labels I put on the back of my mounted pictures. It goes to my website.

I've tried more than one. I'm currently using a Samsung from 2018. I have a newer Motorola. I'll try that.

The Iphone 12 I had from work did work. I didn't try with earlier Iphones so I don't know. My current Samsung Galaxy S23 works.

Just hover over the scribble and a URL should appear on screen and then touch it. Works for me with most QR’s

Although Apple's APP store has several QR reader apps, my old iPhone 7 and my newer iPhone 12 both have a scanner built into the Camera app. At first, I thought I had to actually take a photo of the QR code but then I realized I simply needed to hover my Camera over the QR code and the link would appear on the screen.
I've yet to see if it works on a QR code displayed on a TV screen. Usually the advertisement will flash a code for about 12 seconds telling me to "scan the QR code for more information." Yeah, right. I'd have to be standing two feet away with from the TV screen, phone in hand and Camera app running to do that in the time allowed.

I've seen warnings about randomly scanning those codes - malware!

I do not use my Samsung Galaxy on this kinid of stuff. I do not use it to surf the web or pay bills. NO personal info is on my phone, I do not even use it open my email. I have no problems.
