But only because I bought a $50 Moto e from TracFone. I got an email from Samsung a couple of days ago. Prices ran from $550 - $950. Not for me!

My Galaxy S-III was a free upgrade from a flip-phone years ago.
Those days of free upgrades are long gone.
I don't remember what my S-21 was, but it wasn't inexpensive!
I should be good for many years though.

I've never been able to scan a QR Code. When I was shopping yesterday, a clerk gave me his card to rate him online. To do so I have to scan the code. Taking a picture of it doesn't do anything.

A QR code (short for Quick Response code) is an array of black and white squares or pixels set in a grid that stores data for a machine to read. A smartphone or camera can quickly process the information contained in a QR code’s specific arrangement of pixels, making it a convenient way to store and access data.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9. It came with Bixby Vision, and that's the app that can scan QR codes. No need to buy anything else. I once went to a restaurant that didn't hand out menus. There was a QR code on the table that brought up the menu on the phone. Progress??

I've tried more than one. I'm currently using a Samsung from 2018. I have a newer Motorola. I'll try that.

Download the app toolbox from Google. It has no advertising and you don't have to give it an email or anything. It has about 20 useful and some not useful but fun tools. Including a QR code reader.

Using the camera. I don't know how to use an app. I turn on the camera and point at the bar code then it show me a link then I click on the link. That's all.

But I am wary about QR code for the link. I can't tell what is the link and it could be a malicous link. But QR code is only used for link, it can be used to store data.

That's what my camera app on my Galaxy does.
My wife's phone has a QR reader app.

Right. I would never click on one unless I was pretty sure it was legit. It's like clicking on clickbait you see online, just an invitation to malware.

I used to not having a smartphone and it would mean I can't order in that restaurant.

Google Lens app. Reads QR codes, and also can be used to identify many/most objects, plants, etc.
It's probably already on your phone.

Of all the time I didn't have the smartphone the only thing I miss was the GPS. I have the Garming stand alone GPS but I prefer to use Google Maps.
