Being a Brit, I have never understood the American's fascination with Guns....I understand it is written into your Constitution, and all power to the men who conceived the ideals. However, that was in 1767, I believe.
Is it not now appropriate to concede that at the time, this was well meant but as society has changed so should not the interpretation also change.

I have advocated in the past that I never discuss Politics, Religion or Babies......Apologies for a minor rant.........

If it was 1767 when the 2nd Amendment was written military weapons were revolvers and rifles using powder and shot. I don't think even the Winchester was around till much later. Therefore it seems to me that the 2nd Amendment is an old law that should be either redundant or amended to modern technology.

Those were military type weapons at that time so what is the salient issue?

How is that different than now? I fail to see what the demarcation is in your argument. Actually, I think the military was more entwined with the general population back then than now but still is a non starter in my opinion.

BuddyLars,
Whilst I appreciate your right to protect your property and your family, which I fully understand, please explain to all of us that do not understand, why you need a semi-automatic weapon as protection against a baseball bat.

SMD..you answer your own question , please..what do you need if a person comes in your house to kill you with a ball bat...you need whatever it takes to drop the SOB as far away from your family as possible...it sure as hell is not another ball bat because he may get in the first lick...you are not thinking logically at all..have you ever even fired a gun??? ball bat???pleeeeeze!!!

If strict gun control was all it took to stop gun violence, then Chicago should be the safest city in the entire country.

To answer your question,
Yes, I have fired a shotgun for sporting purposes, on many occasions. I have owned and shot both a Spanish Eibar side by side and a sporting multichoke over under for many years......but I would have never, ever have considered using either as a weapon to be used against another human being ...we obviously are at opposites with regards to the sanctity of life.......................................................................................................................................so let's get back to Photography!

Regardless either way what is your point? I think your best argument was getting back to photography and should go with it.

I agree...just post your favourite image and I'll post mine and we can argue about those for the rest of time. Maybe the rest of he world could put down arms and pick up cameras and take up photography....

Kindest Regards

Lets say you break into my home, without a weapon, I hear you busting through the door, I grab my .45, slap in the clip, slide the action back it is now ready. I do not know you, you broke into my home, you do not have a visible weapon, I'm still shooting. If you physically break into my home, I am not going to take the time to ask of your intentions, nor am I interested in "scarring" you off into the darkness. Semi-automatic means one shot per trigger pull. I would think a single shot handgun would be stupid. You break in, followed by another thug and maybe a third through another access. Semi-automatic with 10 rounds is the min. you need. Will this ever happen to me? Probably not...it is about being prepared.
When you break into my home, no conversation will happen, and hopefully it will be the last criminal act you will ever commit.

The M1 garand is not fully auto and cannot be made so. fires an 8 shot clip semi auto. 38 and 9mm are not interchangeable. Same size slug in diameter but not compatible. For that matter a lot of weapons have similar or even identical diameters but you are playing with your life if you think they are the same.

You have just answered all my my previous queries.......got a gun, then use it.....I'm sorry for the humanity that you are....I'm not a bloody minded liberal but I do believe in the sanctity of life....
God Bless the Gun Laws in the UK.
Like I said before....go back to Photography......Calm Down.....

The last thing anyone will do if someone fires a shotgun in their general direction is advance. I can assure you, when you come under fire you will lose your bravado. I have seen it first hand and to me a 22 semi auto is as good as anything. screw caliber and firepower. I want accuracy. Most of all of this is Hollywood fantasy and big guns are like big cars. compensation.

Your government does not allow you to have a firearm,it's not your choice/freedom anymore.
