We love the camera in spite of a couple of initial faults, so go away. If you don't own one don't be concerned.
I don't think he was bashing anybody. He was just stating a fact or giving a heads up as to what was happening with the lugs. I will admit bashing is common phenomenon here. It seems that a lot of camera Karens on this forum

Brand locality and taking sides in politics. Hmm a lot of similarities.

So far I have only seen two reports of lugs pulling out and we don’t know if that is a trend or a proven defect. Even 500 legitimate accounts would be statistically insignificant to amount produced."

You know what they say about a blind dog and a bone? So, Congrats! Score one for the Canon/Sony team and sleep well tonight.

Nikon has updated their service advisory for the Z8 to include both the mount issue and the strap eyelet issue. So it's official that they have the strap eyelet issue.
Yea I am batting a 1000. The first Z8 I bought the serial number match the problems they were having with the lens mount. Having it for only a few days the camera store allowed me to trade it in for another new Z8. The second Z8 I have yet to take it out of the box and guess what the serial number is one that has strap issues. Been buying Nikon cameras for over a 30 years and never had any issues. I guess that is what happens when you start depending on china for parts.
How about attaching a strap to both "eyes" and also the tripod mount socket. Of course, you'd have to modify the strap(s) on the eyes so if one fails, the camera wouldn't drop.
Although I meant this humorously, I'm surprised that strap makers don't offer a strap that will hold the camera if one eye breaks. In engineering, that's called "single point failure," something to be avoided.

I do not use the lugs on any of my camera's, just don't like the idea of a strap connecting the two sides of the camera and then putting the camera over my neck, I much prefer my Black Rapid strap that connects to the 1/4 20 thread at the bottom of the camera.
I wish all current and future owners of the Nikon zet 8 the best of luck with your lugs.
The zet 8 is smashing Sony and Canon on recent sales of mirrorless camera's. In fact, Nikon zet lenses jumped from 5th place to 2nd place in a month because of the extremely strong sales of the zet 8.
So, again, I wish nothing but smooth sailing for all of you zet 8 owners.
With that said I will be ordering my zet 9 this month from B&H cause they are currently throwing in an additional EN-EL18d rechargeable lithium-ion battery. And since I do not any longer own any older Nikon auto focus lenses I have ordered the Nikon 180-600 for this years stay in Florida's wetlands. I will be testing the differences between the Sony 200-600 on the Sony a1 vs. the Nikon 180-600 on the zet 9.
I will be posting my results in January of 2024.
Until then, good luck everyone and keep on shooting until the end.

I've never used the tripod mounting spot. I just seems unnatural.
The full story that I got yesterday from a senior tech @ Nikon in New York, is now when your camera is identified by serial number, Nikon will send you an E~Mail with label, WHEN they are ready for you to ship it to them/NOT before..i.e. dont ship it in on your own. You will only get the label to print out when the computer database says your group is ready to be sent in. Seems like everyone with Z8s that are affected dumped on the repair center...In the mean time you have to wait

Go look at his history. His #1 purpose for being here seems to be bashing Nikon. Now he’s trying to spin it like he was just being helpful.

I guess it all depends on how you plan to use the strap.
I use Peak Design's Slide and Slide Lite...Attachment is to one eyelet and bottom shoe to provide 'sling' use. So if the eyelet fails, it still has the bottom attachment.
Neck strap would attach to both eyelets. Again, should be a fail safe.
The only time I use a single eyelet/attachement is with their wrist strap--seldom, but....Only one attachment, but I never drop the camera to hang by the strap as I always hold it with my hand.
I also have the Black Rapid that connects in the same way as the PD sling use.

I've had my Z8 for about two weeks and I really like it. Went to Nikon site, entered my serial number. Was informed my camera is part of the advisory for potential lug problem. Filled out their form, received packing list sheet. Was informed that I am in queue, and when I work my way up the list I will receive a shipping label. From what I've heard that could take up to 25 days. I will be sending mine to NY service center, so not sure how backed up they are.
I never use a strap attached to the lugs, so I'm not worried. But I'll send it in to have it checked/repaired anyway.
When I bought mine B&H had Z8 on backorder, so I found one on Amazon. Never bought a camera from Amazon before, but the same issue could have come up no matter where I bought it.
I hope yours doesn't need service Jerry. You just got it back for the mount issue.
I'm confused. I just received this email from Nikon. There is no shipping label. The PDF is the same one I filled out and printed a few minutes ago when I first contacted them.
Attached you will find a PDF document with shipping instructions.
Here's what you need to do next:
1, Confirm all the information in your Product Repair Packet is correct.
2. Print your packing list and shipping label.
3. Ship your product, any included accessories and the packing list to Nikon.
4. Please allow one business day for processing after received by the Nikon Service Department. To check the status of your order, please visit us online at:

*Please note, seasonal volume or repairs requiring special parts may add more time.

It does, but that's okay - as long as they send me a shipping label.
