Thank you all for the help. I am going to take a look at your suggestions. The shots several of you posted where great and I am defiantly going to check those lens out. I will let you know what I end up with.

Hi,
I have a Canon 7d. My husband and I are starting to travel more and I was thinking about a new lens to capture landscapes while we camp and travel. We have trips to Florida, Blue Ridge Parkway, and South Dakota planned for 2013. I have a lens for wildlife and Macro.
What do you think would be a good lens for my need?
Thanks

CKash, if you can only get one lens, take a close, hard look at the Canon EFs 15-85. Very good for landscape shots, and very versatile. It's the crop counter part to the 24-105L. Same IQ as an L but less money.
As a Nikon user, I can't advise use on the wide array of Canon lenses. My prime lens is the Nikkor 28-300mm. However, I complement it with a Tamron 10-24mm wide angle lens. This lens is quite handy for landscape photos, especially in the range of 20-24mm.
If at all possible, take two cameras with you. Changing lenses can be cumbersome. Use one for your longer lens and one for your wide angle.

Just thought I'd give you an example of the Tamron 18-270. These photos have not been through Elements, except the shot of Jackson Square, it needed cropped, and brightened while in RAW.

I'm sorry, these shots just don't jump out at me.

A few months back I decided it was time to purchase a wide-angle lens. Most of my shooting is wildlife or nature so this is what my lenses covered. My walk around lens started at 28mm and my wildlife lens started at 70, a 70-200mm f2.8 L. Like you I wanted something a little wider. I didn't want to go "cheap" though, I did want quality.
I posted here and did my homework. I decided on the Tokina 12-24mm f4.0 after looking at photos for over a week. It finally came down to the Canon10-22mm and the Tokina 12-24mm lenses. Finial consideration came to pricing. The Canon is $739.00 compared to the Tokina cost of $499.00. I could not justify the $240.00 price difference and bought the Tokina.
I haven't used it much because of health issues but here are two photos taken last Friday at Conowingo Dam. Unfortunately it was a miserable day, it rained all day getting foggy at times so not the best shots in the world. The first photo was taken at 24mm, the second at 12mm to give you an idea of the possible range of the lens.
Hope they help you make your choice.

Having recommended a lens that covers this end of the spectrum previously, I like what I've seen in the Tokina 12-24. Tokina makes good lenses. Find a good pro shop that does rentals in your area. Rent it on a Friday and they will charge you a one day rental if you bring it back on Monday. If you also decide to buy a new lens, your rental fee will go towards your purchase price. Of course, check reviews, but I think that this is the type of lens you're looking for.

 In the photos above the color is true and even though it was raining at the time the photos were taken you can see the cables on the cranes. I am not sorry I choses this lens at all.

CKASH....We've decided (oldtool2 and I) that you should look into the Tokina 12-24mm lens. Let us know if you decide to look at it and go that way.
I will look at the Tokina 12-24 thanks for all the honest recommendations!

After your comment about the photos I posted, I took a careful look at them. I found you are correct about the sharpness, and focus of the photos. I took the lens back to the store where I purchased it in June of this year. The salesman, and the owner of the store took some shots in the store using my 50D body and Tamron lens. They then opened a new Tamron lens, and took the same shot for comparison. My Tamron lens did not campare to the one they tested it with. They then took the lens back to the repair facility on site, and did a focus cal, and found the lens out of cal. I will be sending lens back to Tamron for full warranty calibration after the Holidays. I'll be without a lens for about 40days.
