I tried to sell to MPB but they offered very low for one and had NO interest in the other.

I know they are a business... IF your lens is HIGHLY WANTED, they will make you an offer. I actually buy/sell photo equipment and understand the mechanics. Buyers like to buy from known and large outfits, like KEH, Adorama, B&H, etc... since they inspect and have a reasonably good warranty on the merch they sell. YOU must do diligence in finding out what your gear SELLS for currently and can be verified. One way is to go eBay and check SOLD and then look at Highs and lows and CONDITION.... If your gear is mint, and you have the oem box, etc. it will fetch the highest prices.... if not, the prices go down.

I did NOT find MPB to be the easiest or best place for ME to deal with. I KNOW there are plenty of folks here who do like them - I understand - BUT they are NOT likely dealers, like me, I buy/sell for a PT living for over 25 years online and elsewhere, so MY experience is with LOTS of gear [ not just my personal gear] and this is the foundation for MY opinion.

IF looking to get the MOST, sell yourself and deal with it as is necessary.... IF not looking for the highest money then ask two or more of the stores named: KEH, B&W, ADORAMA, etc and COMPARE what they offer... some of these places WILL GIVE YOU AN INSTANT QUOTE, but THEN, if the gear does NOT match YOUR description, they lower the amount offered after inspecting.

Good luck ... it's a jungle out there and these businesses are NOT really on your side 100%

I did an exchange with them and was completely satisfied: Canon XSi and a few Canon lenses for a Sony Alpha 6400 and lens.

I sold some excess Nikon and Canon higher-end bodies to MPB. They had an office in Manhattan, NYC but I learned they had moved to Brooklyn in an industrial area. For "shXts and giggles", I decided to go there. A few blocks from the subway station, they were located in a large manufacturing loft building housing a number of other commercial companies, typical of the area. Finally arriving on their floor, the elevator opened onto an approximately 5000+ sq ft open loft with a small reception desk and a good-sized coffee and food cafe for the employees. I had called earlier and was greeted by the receptionist who took my equipment and issued a receipt and told me I would be contacted and the online $ estimate would be confirmed. I did receive an email knocking down the total amount about a few hundred dollars. I OK'd it for the experience. They did immediately wire the money to my bank and that was that. Except for the $ reduction, I give the whole experience a neutral rating.

I asked to use the rest room which was in the back and was able to walk by and see the repair stations and their photography setups using light tent and storage racks for the camera equipment and a number of laptops to enter their inventory and notes.

Be well! Ed

Walt,

MPB has two prices from my experience: The first is a quote after describing /listing your items. The second price is given after they receive your merchandise. it is the final one that is the bitter issue. sometimes the price is so low that it leaves you feeling you should have donated your stuff to goodwill.

Why not sell on the UHH website as was suggested earlier? You are the only person that knows the true value of your equipment.

Today as a matter of fact. Got great price for several old and unused lenses. Very easy.
Good luck!

I have bought and sold from them for quite a while. I just ordered a new Fujifilm lens from them last night.

Yes.I traded so/me equipment and purchased a prime macro lens and a Canon 800 body. I found them to be courteous, responsive and helpful in packaging three items in one very safe mailer. The prices were less than for comparable products at other resellers. My equipment looked and worked as if brand new.

I recently sold a lens to them. I had purchased it about 3 months prior from another reputable used lens dealer. When I purchased the lens, it was rated "like new". My sale to MPB was after the return period, and it was in conjunction with buying a different lens from MPB. (The original seller would have offered me full credit, but they didn't have the lens I wanted, and I opted to go with MPB for convenience).

MPB gave me an immediate quote on the lens I was selling. They paid the shipping charges (for both lenses). After inspecting the lens I was selling, they wrote to me and indicated that they could only rate it as "excellent" because they found dust in the lens. This reduced the price by about 15% (if memory serves). They offered to return the lens and cancel the sale of the other lens if I disagreed with them.

Recognizing that different people rate lenses differently, I was disappointed, but not upset. From "like new" to "excellent" is within the range where opinions may differ. More importantly, when I checked a week or so later they were listing exactly one lens of the type I sold, and it retained the "excellent" rating (so it appears that they used the same criteria for selling the lens as they did for buying.

I believe that the price was higher than KEH or Adorama would have offered -- though I don't remember by how much.

Overall, a satisfactory transaction.

Funny, but I never had this experience with them. Each quote up front that I got before sending in my equipment was exactly the same after their examination of the equipment. They declined, up front, to purchase a brand new Godox flash, which I accepted as being something they had no interest in purchasing. I have reviewed many of the items for sale on the UHH classified site, and seeing what some represent as mint or like new condition are only very good or good from pictures of the gear presented. So maybe the beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder. I am not saying this is what you experienced. In fact, when I was trading something to Adorama years ago, they quoted me one price for a Sony A6000 over the phone then substantially discounted it after their review that took almost a month. When I told them to send the gear back, they immediately increased to price to me.

I have bought, sold and traded with them maybe 6 times over the past several years (pre- and post-Covid). Never a bad experience, and they consistently offered more than the competition for the kit they bought outright or I traded in for something else.

Still it's wholesale pricing, less than you'd get selling items yourself on UHH, eBay etc., but it's quick, no risk and no hassle. Plus you get a no-questions-asked return period and a warranty on anything you get from them.

I emailed MPB about buying a used tripod and it took them over two and a half weeks before responding. In the mean time tried to locate their phone number on their website but could not find. Finally, went to BBB and they said that they are not a member but there almost 60 complaints filed in the last year. So I decided against any purchases from them.
