Great captures; thanks for sharing. FYI, groundhog (woodchuck, marmota monax) is a member of the squirrel family and prone to tree climbing. They are completely herbaceous so tree leaves are part of their diet. The one you photographed here appears to be a pup, probably born in March and now on its own.

Those are some interesting shots.

Wonder if that is a mixed breed with something else.
It has a somewhat different look than ground hogs I've been around that can cause a lot of problems with the holes they burrow out in hay fields. They don't look like they would be able to climb on a branch like that one in your good pics.

A cross between a squirrel and a groundhog. It's a "Squirhog". Everybody knows this! I'm surprised at you people!
They are extremely intelligent and dangerous!

Thanks Joe. Not sure on that. The park has plenty of vegetation for them making this even a better shoot

We have one that we see run across our backyard every so often. I've never seen one
in a tree though.

Super. I’d check with your state DNR and see what they have to say about arboreal woodchucks. Great set.

Scrawny looking critter. The groundhogs I’ve seen in these parts are too fat to climb trees.
