As far as importing oil is concerned, let's consider using up THEIR oil first.

Yeah, I checked on my last visit home. You are paying about the same for a liter as we are for a gallon... That's a dinky US gallon, which I believe is 4 liters.

Very difficult (impossible) to link the current spike in crude oil prices to the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline MANY years ago and a great deal to do with the crisis and uncertainty caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Please read the EIA report below and let’s for once, not take a topic of national interest into the morass of divisive politics and the attic.
Saturday I paid $5.44 (USD) per US gallon for 98 RON... down here in Victoria Australia.
Then on the way home got rear
ended by a Kenworth while stopped
at a red light.
The homicidal psychopath said he didnt see me... and said the light was green...
which was a pile of horse manure he invented to cover his criminal arse.
He should be locked away but the pigs said it's his word against mine so stiff bickies.
If your offended by the sobriquet "pigs", don't be.
I admire and respect honest cops very much; however
in the words of the late Supreme Court Judge and Royal Commissioner Don Stewart,
"The corruption in the Victoria Police force is widespread and deep seated".
The Victorian Police force is corrupt as an institution. It's more
an organized crime syndicate than a Police force.
On the other end of the scale, in Australia, the Queensland Police
are crime fighting justice seeking heros...
who incidentally; arrested, charged, and convicted a Victorian cop at Townsville (QLD) airport
for trafficking (his backpack full of ) methyl amphetamine.
How'd I get onto that rant?
Of course it's Shell Oil. They think their gas is better than all others.

Walking is supposed to be good for you anyway.
Try walking 8 miles with 30 lbs on your back.

Is that the 500 year plan?

1 US Gallon = 3.78 Liters
1 US Gallon = 0.83 UK Gallons
The big oil companies take advantage of every news opportunity to create a 'shortage' of oil and raise the price at the pump. It is corporate greed, not supply and demand that is driving these prices.
Yes, the Ukraine situation will be a factor.
The sad fact too, is that the oil companies have significant subsidies from the federal government as well.

Haven't gas prices in Europe always been much higher than the US? Maybe that is why so many Europeans rely on mass transit, scooters and bicycles, or as most Americans wouldn't understand, walking.

As upset as I am about the price of gas, I’m more upset about the price of food. Recently went to buy some wild king salmon. It was $39.99 a pound here in the Bay Area!
Last Thanksgiving, stopping at Fred Meyers in Medford, Oregon (on my way to Seattle) salmon was $12.99 a pound! Prices are nuts!
