:-) well it is bigger.

I will concede however that a US gallon, even though it is very very English,
substantially predates the Imperial gallon... also very English.

The US gallon is based on (Identical to a decimal place) the Queen Anne gallon AKA wine gallon
of the 18th Century.

The Imperial Gallon (.76 litres larger) is based on the beer gallon of the same period as the Queen
Anne gallon but that was not ratified until 1824.
