OK, I have a feeling I may regret this but I'm gonna risk it.
What's the stupidest thing you ever heard?
OK, if you insist, I'll start it off.
Younger people won't even know what I'm talking about when I tell you mine. Here ya go.
What mother could possibly think that it would be a good thing to sing the lullabye
"Rock-a-bye baby" to her child????
I mean, the words:
"Rock a bye baby, in the tree top,
when the wind blows, the cradle will rock"
OK, so far so just let the wind rock the cradle for you, right? Are there mosquitoes? Is it cold up there? Who climbed up the tree to put the baby up there in the first place...and hauled a cradle up a tree?
and then, to continue with,...
"When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall,
Down will come cradle, baby and all."
Now isn't that a comforting thought??? That should lull any precious little child to sleep with a smile.
Who EVER thought to write something like that?
I'm not even going to mention Fairy tales. Poor scared little pigs! Hansel and Gretel got the stuffings scared out of them and LRRH's grandma got eaten by the wolf. Maybe "stupid" is not the right word.

What's the stupidest thing you ever heard? br OK, ... (
show quote)
Did you fail to get the message? One that it is a metaphor for why you should not be doing such a stupid thing and that all things have consequences if you make wrong decisions.
Guess its not the words, but the soothing melody and the way it is sung by a loving mother. I did see one old illustration showing that the baby was being held by a mother who was looking out the upstairs window at a bird's nest (nature's cradle?) swaying in the wind near the top of a tree.

The most stupid thing I ever heard is someone getting vaccinated with an unproven and unapproved vaccine out of fear and ignorance.

The above quote may qualify among the stupid things I ever heard.
I wonder how many kids fell asleep wondering if they would die in their sleep?

I have a feeling that will be the number one answer.

I guess I missed out. My mother never sang that message to me.
Thanks for looking and responding.

Thank you. That sounds much better.
