In these days, I have to agree with any hesitation on provision of any info. But, it is also true that MPB is a highly reputable company. Have dealt with them in past.
As others have suggested, in some ways I think provision of your email address for PayPal deposit is more safe than using a credit card to pay, or certainly a personal check. But, it’s your call.

Hi folks, I just sold some equipment to mpb and they are ready to pay me for it but here’s my issue, they only want to pay me by transferring the funds to my banking account, they want my banking account number and routing number, I have bought things from them years ago, and it seems a lot of you folks like them and give them really good ratings, but do you feel it’s ok to just give out that info with the way things Are nowadays, thanks for your input, topkat.

I have sold them gear on 3 separate occasions, direct deposit is what they have always done for me too. Never any issues and I have always gotten my money within an hour or two. Best way to receive funds long distance in my opinion.

That’s right. This is not secret information. What you are doing is letting them deposit money, not take it out. All sorts of organizations use direct deposit, from the IRS and Social Security to eBay and PayPal.

I agree. I've used this service several times with MBP, never had any issue. Anyway it's safer that the US mail today in many parts of the country!

There are plenty of things to worry about in today's world -- this is not one of them.

IMO this is a non issue. Ask any police department. This is a far safer (for your money) than using the US mail. Mail with checks in the envelope is more risky than electronic transfers. Ask your bank what protections are available to you for such transactions.

Grow up, every time you give a check to someone you are giving them the same information. Having the money sent directly to your account is probably the safest way to get your money. Money from MPB to my account has never been a problem. FWIW

Do you write checks? If so, that information is on the bottom of every check you write.

Never give out your banking info. Never.

So obviously you're not paying any of your bills on line. You're mailing checks to pay your bills? Your check has your account # and routing # on it.

I just purchased a lens from them and used PayPal so you shouldn't need to give them banking info. I had great service from them. My lens arrived sooner than they had promised. If you need a contact name and info to deal with, let me know,

Acct no. and routing no. are on every paper check you write (assuming you still write checks)

Yes, and that’s a good reason to be very careful who you write checks to. All that’s needed to initiate an ACH transfer from your account is the routing, account number and name. I found out the hard way. Here’s how I know. On reviewing my bank statement, I saw a $700 ACH transfer to an apartment management company in Atlanta who, upon investigation, managed thousands of low end apartments in Atlanta. I had no relationship and had never done business with this management company. The management company supposedly couldn’t pin down how it originated and my bank said that once someone had my account and transit number, they could enter that information as a payment for any account they chose. I did get the $ back, but I had no choice but to close the account and reopen another. That was a royal PIA, not only for direct deposits such as SS, but all the payments I have automatically drafted each month. Now, I am VERY careful if I ever give anyone a check, because once they have the account number and transit code, anyone can initiate an ACH transfer. if they can’t do paypal, have them send you a paper check. BTW, MPB has proven to be a very reputable dealer in every transaction I’ve had with them.

MPB is a highly respected company. I and others on UHH have sold equipment to them without problems. Frankly, I would trust my banking info to them over PayPal, that has had hacking issues.

I wouldn't be concerned about providing the account and routing number. With that, all they or anyone else can do is "add."

"All that’s needed to initiate an ACH transfer from your account is the routing, account number and name."

Not quite true, since you also need a bank account that allows the account holder to initiate ACH withdrawals on other non-affiliated accounts. The banking industry has security restrictions on this feature (not to say that instances of fraud do not occur).

I do it with SSS and the VA and a few other entities. I don't worry about it, for reasons already stated in the thread.
