Buying a Nikon doesn't make you a better photographer. It makes you a future former Nikon owner.

You're just jealous because you don't have any Nikons.

sorry but I disagree. I live near a wildlife preserve. I am there a few times a week with my camera.
I see a LOT more MIL cameras then I do DSLR cameras. The place I see more DSLR are the older retired people that have been shooting for years. Younger people that love their Iphone pix are moving up to MIL cameras.

I am one of those old people with my DSLR which I may sell and get a Nikon Z7II we will see. Ihavent tried one yet.

I' am77 and a Fujixt3 shoasootet untilm my stroke. Now use my 12 pro untillmy left hndcan supporsupport my real camera.
I sold all my Nikkn gear as I wanted good camera that was less bulky and less weight I will keep it until it doesn’t work even if the Fuji brand goes under. all of our current cameras will be obsolete sooner than laterAlways something new

Like our gear we’ll all be obsolete some day so let’s all enjoy our new and old toys while they and we are working.

A few years back when I gave up film I went to Dans camera in Allentown. Not sure what camera Canon or Nikon I was going to come home with. There just happened to be a Nikon rep there demonstrating their camera. I guess he talked me into a Nikon. Their both great cameras. I have four lens. Up to a 600 mm. I shoot every day. Never leave home without my camera. Never know what you may come across. Ive shot photos for the police, fire dept. and other shots that made it into the news papers. Even had one on TV. So never go out your camera.

My first purchase of a Nikon was after seeing a friend shoot with his D700 in low light, that was all it took for me.

Fuji used to use Nikon mount lenses on the S1 and S2 cameras. When Nikon decided not license them any more I was surprised that Fuji didn't just buy Nikon. Fuji being a multi billion dollar industry could have acquired Nikon out of their pocket change which would have insured the survival.

And also in S3 and s5 too

Most of the photography money is spent by amateurs. Nikon decision to concentrate only on full frame mirrorless is very perilous. That's not where most of the money is.

They are focusing on Enthusiasts and Pros - the only two groups that will buy an ILC camera now. The low end market is all cell phones now.

Will they survive 2021

Yes - they will very likely survive. They are owned by Mitsubishi so there are very deep pockets behind Nikon. As long as Mitsubishi doesn't pull the plug they could go on forever. With that said, Mitsubishi would likely not go on supporting losses forever, but they also likely will not have to.

Nikon has a massive base of millions of DSLR Nikon users around the globe many of which have been waiting to upgrade to mirrorless when they deem the mirrorless Nikon's are ready. This is likely why we are seeing very good sales of the Z6ii and the Z7ii - the Z7ii was number 2 in camera sales in Japan in December of 2020 - beating even Sony.

Of course, Sony had not released a new camera in a few months and will again 'out sell' Nikon when the A7 IV is released, but the fact that the Z7ii is selling well indicates that the DSLR crowd is starting to make the switch.

My guess is this will come to full fruition with the next generation of mirrorless from Nikon (i.e. late this year/early next year) with the release of the Z8(?) - the D850 mirrorless equivalent and the D9 which is supposed to boast an AF tracking system to rival the D6.

Once AF tracking is on this level in the Nikon's they will be a robust system indeed as they will then have no appreciable drawbacks when compared to their competition (namely Canon and Sony) and they will have some advantages over those systems - namely build quality and a superior mount with the best lenses and the potential to design the most optically superior lenses going forward, so their will be good reason to use Nikon and no more reasons not to - currently AF tracking is a stated reason for not using Nikon - really the only significant one when you compare to Sony and Canon.

So, if Nikon can survive for 12-18 months then they should be in fine shape due to a significant uptick in mirrorless sales and significant downsizing of needless expenses like manufacturing in Japan when their products out of Thailand are subject to the very same quality control standards and are just as good - but cost Nikon much less to make (remember that the D850 and D500 were both manufactured in Thailand and are respectively considered the best DSLR full frame and crop sensor ever made). Additionally, Nikon has laid off unnecessary employees now that they are focused on one market segment - this will further lower their costs - essentially they are cutting the fat.

It is pretty clear that Mitsubishi intends to give Nikon the runway to survive until this strategy starts to kick in as Nikon has already indicated many product releases for the next 2 years vis a vis 8 or so more lenses and the Z9 camera body etc.

Nikon should be doing very well (relatively speaking) within this 18 month window - certainly well enough to continue to manufacture cameras and lenses for a specific market of enthusiasts and professionals.

I guess I bleed Nikon, had a FTN long before digital, i still prefer film, love to develop and print, have several 6x7 Pentax, used to repair them until fingers got to old to pick up those tiny screws!
