They will be around after all of us are gone. They have revamped their product line, cutout the losers and low profit/ low revenue lines, currently downsizing staff and doing what a company needs to do to survive a lower demand marketplace. Every company experiences this at some point.

sorry but I disagree. I live near a wildlife preserve. I am there a few times a week with my camera.
I see a LOT more MIL cameras then I do DSLR cameras. The place I see more DSLR are the older retired people that have been shooting for years. Younger people that love their Iphone pix are moving up to MIL cameras.
I am one of those old people with my DSLR which I may sell and get a Nikon Z7II we will see. Ihavent tried one yet.
BDK you are right here. Nikon has gotten out of the compact camera market because, in their own words, smartphones have decimated that market for them. As you look at the CIPA overall camera sales numbers declining in all segments: compact, DSLR both APS-C and Fullframe, Mirrorless both APS-C and fullframe, it is clear that compacts are down to a trickle; DSLRs both APS-C and fullframe were down by half in 2019 and again by half in 2020; mirrorless is the only segment that has held it own, both APS-C mirrorless and fullframe mirrorless, and to a lesser extent Micro 4/3rds mirrorless.
If Nikon is to return their consumer camera division to profitability they have to be able to compete with Fuji, Canon, Panasonic ,Olympus and Sony in mirrorless. More avid enthusiasts, more pros, and more younger shooters desire mirrorless tech and innovation. The numbers bear out this fact. Cheers

Being serious Paul, as I always respect your opinion even if I might slightly disagree, I really do not feel that Nikon will be going out of business, in the Camera Dept., for quite a few years. Now, I do believe that it would be possible for, perhaps Canon let's say, to purchase them or use the Japanese way of doing business, which is that Japanese companies want other companies to succeed as in what happened with Olympus. So I would really like you to reply your true beliefs. The Japanese Businesses use 2 Business ways and I can't remember the names of both but they can be easily looked up. This situation could be compared to the Car Manufacturers whereas what Chrysler has done or let's say Ford were to experience a situation I can honestly say that perhaps G.M. would buy them or merge the Ford Name with theirs. No Company wants to be the only one, they want others to stay in the league in order to have competition so that they can gauge their company. Sorry for the long reply here/? it was the only way that I could put my 2 cents in.
Nikon began in 1917 and will likely be around in some form in 2117. They took major write offs and posted paper losses along with some very real losses this past year. Obviously that can’t go on for ever. I think with their diversification into sophisticated imaging, Nikon and Canon are well placed for the future. Image creation is going to change as computing power expands into AI and post processing gets more and more user friendly. How cameras evolve, both on phones and as stand alone tools, will likely surprise us a little. I’m confident that Nikon, at some level, will still be there.

Reported ?
ROTFLMFAO.
You don’t read what’s written. You read only what your myopic ego shows you.
Maybe I have an eighth grade education ... maybe less. Maybe I have two heads ... maybe three.
“Maybe”. Such an interesting word. The shadowy energy of less-than-certainty.

There are much worse scenarios other than Nikon surviving. UK announced today they are dealing with a new strain of COVID that appears to be not only more contagious but much more deadly. Perhaps the question is "will mankind survive?"
I might not survive but you can damn be sure my Nikon camera will.

Good to put things in perspective.

Thanks Ron. I had a sobering moment today in Los Angeles. The world came to a temporary stop as we watched the National Guard come in and unload a temporary morgue of bodies and load the decedents into an awaiting refrigerated truck. Everyone stopped. Stood silently in respect. One man wept quietly as he watched. He was not related. He was a maintenance man at the hospital and had to move the bodies.
Please believe this pandemic is real and get a vaccine as soon as it is available.
Embrace each day and use your camera (regardless of brand) to capture memories as if they were your last.
Blessings to all.
Only problem might be that Cannon is a much bigger company than Nikon and has many other divisions besides Photography

Yes and same to you. I lost my brother in law from LA on Christmas Day to Covid. It definitely needs to be taken seriously. Take care and stay safe!!
