It tracks with market share, mostly. I used both brands for decades, then abruptly switched to a Lumix system to consolidate all my needs for stills and video into a much smaller kit.

Over five years later, Canikon have mirrorless cameras I’d consider.

This is a continuing, neverending topic. The reason more Canons are for sale is that there are a lot more Canons out there than there are Nikons. Look at the sales figures over the years. By that analysis because there are few Pentax for sale, they are #1.

I don't know about the cameras but Canon's marketing is certainly superior. As I recall, it was Canon who blew open the DSLR market with the first crop frames and Rebel line. From my own observations, casual and beginning photographers especially are carrying Rebels. When some of them decide to upgrade, where do they go? I went this route myself starting with an XTi. A few models later, I have a 5D IV and 77D. My next one is likely to be a R5. Along the way, I have accumulated way too many lenses to switch brands. Canon got me and I can't escape!!

I've been with Nikon since 1973, and have no plan to change. I do use Canon Powershot cameras for my photo booths. Back when I shot weddings, it just wouldn't have sounded right to say, "I shoot brides with canons".

Lol... If I was actually going to offer a remotely educated speculation, I would want to know if these offerings are DSLR models or mirrorless models. If they are indeed DSLR models and EF lenses, I suspect (speculating now) the sellers have either lost interest in serious photography in lieu of smart phone snapshots or that they are paring down their DSLR arsenals in favor of the new EOS R5 and R6 cameras and RF series lenses as I did when I traded my T6s and 6DMKII and a number of EF-S and EF lenses on the newer mirrorless models. Now, if they are offering their new EOS R, R5, and R6 cameras up for sale, that would paint a different picture. Also, has it occurred to you that significantly more Canon cameras are sold than Nikons so therefore there are more of them out there to be sold second hand? Honestly, I don’t think that there is any significant statistical brand trend preferences or customer satisfaction trends to be correlated from the information you provided. However, it was fun thinking about it! Fortunately, us photographers are not so tribal that we cannot be cordial with one another. At least instead of merely two parties, we have the Canon Party, the Sony Party, the Nikon Party, the Fuji Party, the Panasonic Party, the Hasselblad Party, etc. to divide us as we all capture wonderful images with our various hardware. Happy New Year and may 2021 bring you many great images from your Canons and Nikons!

Could just be that Canon owners out number Nikon owners by a large percentage. I believe in recent years that pretty much a given.

Might be because every Nikon lens can still be used on every Nikon camera. I have an assortment of Nikon cameras and lenses,
F
F2AS
F4s
F5
FM
FM2
FE
FE2
FA
D40x
D3100
D3200
D7100
D7200
D500
D3
D5
I'm not going to list all the lenses I but it's everything from 10mm manual to 600mm AF.
AND they all work on all the cameras.

Nikon is in serious financial trouble. Also market share is more tilted toward Canon. More camera's= more for sale. Another factor may be now that the Canon mirrorless are out and getting such good reviews that the DSLR's are being sold and replaced by the new mirrorless.

It really doesn’t indicate anything. Sample size is too small, and only done one time. Now, if you see a similar ratio, time and time again ... then it’s time to buy a Fuji. How’s that for sound logic?

You cannot extrapolate anything from the ad. The next edition might not have ANY cameras or maybe the number might get reversed, 30 Nikons and 12 Canons with a few Sony and Pentax thrown in.

They are undoubtedly upgrading to the R5.

I'm sure Nikon would rather have the higher number of old bodies being sold.
It means more Canon folks are upgrading (profits).

A potential explanation could be that Canon has done a good job of marketing the Rebel line which is more of a DSLR entry level camera lineup. Then after a year or so, many folks sell the Rebels and move up to another model.
I know that Nikon also has the 3xxx series but I suspect more Rebels are sold.
