Our Maine Coon cat traveled with us during the 14 years we RVed. He visited 44 states for at least one night. Learned to sleep in a cat carrier in the back seat of the truck and sleep all day. Of course, he then wanted to play when I was ready to rest!

Nice, Gene, we have similar unit, a 2012 Fleetwood. Those V6 diesels have good grunt. We average 14 mpg. Trips to East Coast and Alaska provided for lots of photo ops, and you can take all your lenses! You might want to consider "flat towing" a small car... easier to get into some places like bad roads and narrow streets. Setting up and then breaking camp to go get groceries gets old too. Twelve-foot-high platform makes a great photo platform. Have fun!

Short story.

Years ago, a consultant in the org I headed was a retired former employee of the company. At the time of his rtmt, he reportedly came home from his last day on the job and had a short conversation with Helen, his wife. The conversation went something like this:

“Helen, I have sold the house and all the furniture, sold the car, bought a boat, which sails tomorrow morning. Are you coming with me?”

This is paraphrased, of course, but facts are true. They were living in S. California, where the boat was docked, and had adult children living there, and in Alaska and Hawaii. For about 20 yrs they plied the waters among those destinations, loving every minute.

Living on a now fixed income, when funds started to dry up, he would call me or another senior type and ask for a short-term contract. With sufficient funds in the bank, they would head back to the ocean. Age eventually took control and they were forced to give up their seafaring life. But the memories, oh my! Helen worked secretarial functions on their shore stints, and was an excellent writer. I read many of her chronicles, which she should have had published, but never did, to my knowledge. What a life they enjoyed.

My hat is off to anyone who can make this dream a reality!

My DIY conversion: smallest Sprinter van with a bed in back and storage below, sink, 12V/110V frig, solar panels, inverter, Li-ion batteries. Cabinet frames made with 80/20 aluminum extrusions. Took me a while to build up the courage to do the solar/electrical since I knew nothing about electricity, and thankfully, the internet has plenty of info. Next year we plan on doing a cross-country trip from Oregon to Nova Scotia and back.

Looks nice. One of the complaints my cousin had was where and whenever you wanted to go anywhere you were driving this motor home around. Parking at times a pain.
Good luck. Oh yeah, you really have to like who you are with.

Easy fix, you put a tow package on your car and the RV easily pulls it when ever you go. You park the big RV and then you drive your towed car where ever you want to go. Yes, it is that easy.

A less expensive way to go is with a car dolly. Prepping a car with a tow plate, wiring for the lights, supplemental brake unit, and tow-bar can cost $2600 and up. Most of which can not be salvaged when trading cars. A car dolly can be purchased for $1500, and can last through several cars.

I saw this and thought what a great idea to travel full time and take pictures now that we are retired. https://www.rvtrader.com/listing/-5014203758
I'd love to travel to all the places I've seen posted here. I just with I could afford it. But maybe if I sold my house????

Rent b4 you buy. Make sure that you are okay w/ sewer hoses as well as the glory. And make sure any significant other(s) are on the same page.

RVs let you stay in places that "common folk" can not. If you can, get a self contained unit and tow a car for outings into cities. Buy used. Search a lot. Let someone else absorb the depreciation.

The Class A you linked to can not fit in some national parks.

After treated for lymphoma for 2nd time I bought a 4 Wheel Camper for my Silverado and we traveled for 40 days out West. While it's small it has all the comforts needed and can really get around with it. Picture is from upper Salt Creek Canyon in Canyonlands NP.

We are in our 10th year of full timing. Record number of campgrounds in one year was 117. We have averaged 90 campgrounds per year. We are down to 47 this year but it has been a great way to dodge COVID...just find out where COVID is not a big problem and head on down that road!
