Hedgehog family, I'm in the market for a D4 just because I want one, not that I need one. I have a D500 and a D850 so this D4 would just be something to shoot with from time to time. I have spotted one on eBay with 133,500 shutter count that the seller says is in very good condition. He purchased the camera from National Camera Exchange so it's an American camera. The seller was asking $2400. or best offer so I offered $1500 and he quickly accepted the offer. Now I'm having second thoughts because he accepted the offer so quickly. I just need you guys and gals opinion. I think the camera is worth the offer I made if it's in the condition that he describes. Your thoughts please.

Buyer beware. If you use paypal you will probably be protected better than e-bay. Only way to find out is take the leap but with a safety net.

I really appreciate your response. I have only purchased a couple of items from eBay and have had very good luck so far; however, it really made me suspicious when I got such a quick response from the seller. The seller had a few photos of the camera and the original box as well as a yellow page with the shutter count in large print. Again, there was nothing that he said but what he did with such a speedy response and acceptance. So, the camera is in my basket but I haven't responded to the acceptance email that I received this morning. I wanted to get some much needed advice on the subject.

I wouldn't worry about a scam. Assuming the shutter is rated to 400,000, there's plenty of life left in the body. What you may find though is the pro D4 body is large and heavy and the 16MP images may look 'great' but are rather limited in their cropping opportunities. Compared to what you can do with the D850, you may come to realize $1500 was actually way too much for the limited capabilities of an older digital camera.

Look on a site like KEH to see what they are asking for a D4. His asking price of $2400 seems unreasonably high especially since a Df, which has the same sensor as the D4, can be bought new for $2750.

Thank you for your response and honest opinion. What actually started this was a guy that I watch often on Youtube who goes by the name of the ugly photographer. The guy is brilliant and was giving some specs on the camera and I knew that there wouldn't be much room for cropping with this camera. I'm not trying to justify the purchase because that's always easy when you want somethinhg. I just want to make sure that the camera is worth the offer.

If you read between the lines, it's not worth it ... You can buy more camera or the same 16MP for a whole lot less. What do you envision shooting at 11 fps vs the capabilities of the D500 or D850?

Again, you don't know how much I appreciate your honesty. I have the two best DSLRs that Nikon has ever made and am extremely happy with them. This D4 was just a want and to answer your question, there's nothing I would shoot with the D4 that I couldn't use either of the two DSLRs I currently own. So, it would be an expensive "toy" really.

The D4 is a great camera for sports, which is what it’s optimized for, but for most other applications, the D850 is lighter, has 3x the resolution, better DR and very similar low light/high ISO performance. If you want to shoot sports, especially indoors, the D4 is a great camera. If not, I think you already have the best body.

There's a D5 for sale on this board by a trusted person if you really want nice! Wish I could afford it but I'd lose it in the divorce!

I bought a D3s here for around a grand and have been extremely satisfied with it. First full frame DSLR and well worth the used price. You've got great price for this; i recommend getting it. You'll have it for as long as you want and can always sell it on down the road if you find you're not using it. You've also taught us a lesson on bid-offer negotiations.

If you really want one, go to KEH. Good price and comes with a warranty.

Please consider the D4s instead. I has the GROUP AUTO FOCUS focusing system which is excellent for birds in flight and it's resolving power is unmatched except for the D3s.
You can get the D4s at about the same price point with LESS shutter count. The one your looking at is a little high for what he is asking.

I bought one eBay from a camera dealer. It had 320k shutter count. Sellers said they are rated for 400k. Assured me they can go way past that. Most of the cameras I looked at look like hell. This one was very nice. Also came with Two fully functional batteries and a dual charger. Like you I have a D500 and Df with is my go to camera when I am after portraits. I am not a pro but do shoot High School Softball and American Legion Baseball which can be dusty. Do not want to use the 500. And....like you I just wanted a Pro body camera but not pay thousands of dollars. It is a Beast, love it. Consider the batteries. I would think they would cost $100 each.
