Well, I think the seller was not being totally honest about the camera because when I told him that my intentions were to have the camera examined by a certified Nikon repair facility, he responded with a very ugly email and he cancelled the order and returned my money. So, that tells me that something was wrong with the camera that he wasn't willing to expose.

...truth, but I'll betcha it was grey market...dude, you won't be sorry with a D4.

Lots of D4's on eBay between the $1200-$1700 range. Didn't check the actuations.

For what it's worth, I just traded in an extremely well cared-for D4S with 13,000 shutter clicks. I received $1325 for the trade and was satisfied knowing that I didn't have to sell online or ship. The local camera store advertised it for $1799. However, a week later, they offered 15% off all used gear. The camera was sold for $1529. That store sold that camera with warranty for essentially the same price that you are paying presumably without a warranty. A good rule of thumb is that camera stores (b&h, adorama, keh, etc.) will buy your equipment for roughly 70% of what they will sell it for. So, if buying from a private seller, plan to offer approximately 70% of what you are seeing it selling used for on one of those sites as that is all the seller will get.

Thanks, great insight, will do.

Good idea to check the camera stores for trade-ins. With the D6 out, prices on all previous models dropped.

Hedgehog family, I'm in the market for a D4 just because I want one, not that I need one. I have a D500 and a D850 so this D4 would just be something to shoot with from time to time. I have spotted one on eBay with 133,500 shutter count that the seller says is in very good condition. He purchased the camera from National Camera Exchange so it's an American camera. The seller was asking $2400. or best offer so I offered $1500 and he quickly accepted the offer. Now I'm having second thoughts because he accepted the offer so quickly. I just need you guys and gals opinion. I think the camera is worth the offer I made if it's in the condition that he describes. Your thoughts please.

Not sure, I've only purchased three items total. I'm really not an eBay shopper, I only looked there for the D4 because a friend suggested it.

You might want to reconsider your friends and / or how you use their advice.

I've been buying and selling on Ebay since the beginning of this millenium...20 years.

I do not buy anything from a seller with less than 98% positive feedback.

I have very few friends and I'm in close contact with them regularly. I listen to everyone and consider the advice of few.
