The D4 is a great camera for sports, which is what it’s optimized for, but for most other applications, the D850 is lighter, has 3x the resolution, better DR and very similar low light/high ISO performance. If you want to shoot sports, especially indoors, the D4 is a great camera. If not, I think you already have the best body.

Thanks a bunch for your response and advice. It's people like you who make this forum such a valuable resource.

You have two very capable camera bodies already.
I'd buy a nice lens instead for that 850.

That price is within the current market value for a used D4 in very good condition. Maybe a couple of hundred $ on the high side of that. I see retail outlet prices ranging from $1043 - $1699. Actuation count is well within the lifespan of a D4. Personally, if I were choosing between an 850 and a D4, I would take the 850. It has the upgraded (EXPEED5) processor, and sensor is obviously higher resolution and newer tech. I think the only D4 specs that outpace the 850 are fps and battery life. ISO range is higher but those older sensors aren't really useful in those extreme ISO ranges (IMO).

Hedgehog family, I'm in the market for a D4 just because I want one, not that I need one. I have a D500 and a D850 so this D4 would just be something to shoot with from time to time. I have spotted one on eBay with 133,500 shutter count that the seller says is in very good condition. He purchased the camera from National Camera Exchange so it's an American camera. The seller was asking $2400. or best offer so I offered $1500 and he quickly accepted the offer. Now I'm having second thoughts because he accepted the offer so quickly. I just need you guys and gals opinion. I think the camera is worth the offer I made if it's in the condition that he describes. Your thoughts please.

Check B&H, Adorama or KEH. I think that is the price for the D4s. The D4 is less expensive.

Thanks for your suggestions and I have an 850 and a D500 so it really wasn't a situation of choice, it was a mear want.

You made an offer and he accepted. You have a contract. If you had looked at prices of recent sales on ebay before you made your offer you'd notice that they go as low as $900. There are more below $1500 then there are above $1500 and those above are usually very low shutter count.

What were the conditions of the sale..on eBay? That would determine what options you have and they are usually printed somewhere way below the advertisement.......There are some provisions (rules) that may apply in your behalf if the item received was Not as Advertised but even Pay Pal is little skiddish when these deals Go South on you. Take your time and do the research before you leap. Good Luck.

I have a D4 for sale. Less than 175000 shutter count. I can send pics of it and also exact shutter count.

I concur with this evaluation. I sold my D4 a few years ago to enable my D5 and keep thinking, even though I love the D5, that I made a mistake in selling the D4. I found, as an owner and frequent sports/pageantry user that the D4 was an outstanding camera, and I cropped alot, too. I would liken it to the way the D700 performed with limited pixels, which is *another* camera I would like to take back, lol. YMMV, but when you're buying a flagship camera it is what it is...I mean, it cost that much new for a reason. ;0)

Good assessment, I agree. I'm a budding amature recreational photographer but I want the best DSLR that I can afford and I realize that I'm going to have to spend more for that. That's why I'm looking at used instead of new.
