D500 Will Not Autofocus

The camera seems to do everything but actually move the focus ring. It moves the aperture, and makes (focusing noises) but the focus ring does not move. I cannot find anything that might cause this problem, but I may not see something was wrong.
Tried removing and/or changing batteries, cards, modes, two button reset. Tried seven different lenses both FX and DX-no luck.
Nikon is Not accepting equipment for repair due to COVID-19 restrictions, according to the web site. Called, was number 148 in line! No help as my firmware is up to date! Have to wait until conditions improve before sending it out for repair.
Any other suggestions?
My wife is forcing me to exhaust all possible fixes before pulling the trigger on the D850 I have been lusting after.
The critters will not wait (hear the desperation?).

I know this is simplistic but did you check the focus switch on the camera? You didn't say.

That is terrible to have something like that happen, and it must be frustrating. If the camera is set to AF I can only think it is some problem internal with the camera. I wish I could offer a solution.

This is an important question to answer. It sounds more like a lens problem than a camera problem from your description above.

Good catch. But apparently not reading the original post is a requirement here. I've had it happen on several of mine...
In that case, it sounds like either a scrambled command signal is being sent to the lens or dirty contacts are not allowing enough current to pass to fully energize the focus motor. We also do not know the answer to the other big question...do these lenses have internal focus motors or not?
In any case, it sounds like a camera repair.

Do a system reset just in case you changed something that you didn't expect to change.

Seven different lenses including an
Old screw type. Cleaned all contacts. No luck.
