Just a shot in the dark if you are using an AF-S lens the AF switch is engage on the lens and Camera ..under normal conditions the focus ring is not going to move ,it does not move , it is only an override for fine tuning look through the Eyepiece not at the focus ring it is never going to turn even if it is working properly ...

Thanx for the response. Found some Schmutz on the contacts. Yes I wiped from the inside outwards. Not across the contacts. 1st tried alcohol pads. My wife suggested I use eye glasses wipes. Worked!

I have a D500, and when I shoot a moon rise, I have to put the focus on a single point (the moon) otherwise it will search and search but never focus. I would say try changing the focus points.

I only read the first post in this thread and have no intention of reading the others, but I have a suggested solution. Have you tried putting the lens on the other way around? /s

Then don't post. Already solved my friend. Not sure what your answer means.

BTW: How do you like your D500? I've had mine for a little over a year and I love it. I shoot mostly with Tamron lenses. I was having a lot of trouble with a 70-200 f2.8 lens. This goes back three cameras ago, the Nikon D200, D300, D7000 and now the D500. Turns out if I didn't use the spot focus feature of the lens, it would search constantly. I was doing a shoot when it started acting up. I had to switch to manual focus. It is otherwise a fast lens (it weighs a ton, all glass.) Happy Shooting.

Sounds like a trip to the repair depot might be in order. Suggest you contact Tamron Tech support. Best of luck.

You are perhaps unfamiliar with the "/s" notation. It stands for "end sarcastic remark". I was making fun of all the posters who kept contributing alternative causes AFTER you had found the solution. I am a bad person.

You are not a bad person, just one who may like adding nothing to the question at hand. And NO, I do not know what the "/s" notation means as, I would guess, nor do others. I made a reasonable suggestion, which I did not know would work as I did not have the camera in my hand, nor really know all the details. I normally try (thou not always) to add something to the conversation. Suggest you do the same. Best of luck.
