This is sort of a narrow question and probably late for this year, but, based on your actual experience, What was your best photo trip for fall color, preferably with a number of impressive waterfalls?
Two years ago I did the Watkins Glen, New York area.
Last year I did the Ricketts Glen, Pennsylvania area.
This year I am booked for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
I want to plan ahead for future years.
Thank you.

Love Tallulah Falls...here is a photo from a previous year.
Previous years shot is spectacular this year as well .. beautiful colors ..
Upper Peninsula - hands down! Have a great trip!
We have done fall excursions all over the country; New England and its color are truly a wonder to behold, and the Smokies are worthy of the same comment. However, perhaps it is just from having been in the west for many years, but for us there is nothing quite like the grandeur of the Rocky Mountains with the golden aspen "quakies" cascading down the sides of those grand old peaks. We're headed that way again in a two or three weeks, and can't wait to get started! From South Texas to Four Corners and the five Utah parks, up through Yellowstone into Montana, then down through the center of Colorado on the way home. Always looking for the little out of the way roads, where who knows what might be there to fill our lenses with something new.

I really like the San Juans south of Ouray, CO. and the Grand Mesa east of Grand Junction, CO.
Beautiful colors every year.
Since I am form Maine
I would choose Maine, this was a snap shot taken near the North eastern town of Jackman, during a bird hunting day ..... October 8th, 2007
maybe 20 - 25 miles south of the Canadian border, on logging roads pehaps 5 to 10 miles off the paved road ( NOT HIGHWAY)

My best results have been from right here in Washington State The North Cascade Loop in particular crosses the Cascade range on two different hightways
Tumwater Canyon and Suak Pass in mid to late September are vibrant. Leavenworth is a Bavarian style village in a mountain valley. Winthrop has high chaparral, Forests, sage desert, mountains, rivers and is in addition, a quasi western cowboy/pioneer town. You don't have to be an east coaster to have magnificent fall colors

Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I live about 12 miles from where Skyline Drive ends and the Blue Ridge Parkway starts.
Since I moved to New Hampshire 3 years ago, my best Fall foliage tour is in my driveway. I live in a little town, near Concord, called Bow. It is very rural, and the town pond is a great place for some really great shots. For those not so fortunate to live here, drive to Concord, there are several motels in town. You can easily drive either North, on I-93, to the White Mountains, or West on I-89, to Vermont, and the Green Mountains. Look for the New Hampshire Covered Bridges guide book, all those bridges have great Fall colors. If you like water in your Fall photos take I-93 North to the Lakes Region. The Kancamuga Highway is great for a few waterfalls and scenic overlooks, and trails into the woods. Last week we saw a fox, and a moose along the highway. At Mt. Washington, is a wonderful old railroad, and in Conway there is a dinner train, and Lincoln the Hobo Railroad. There is a wonderful train in the Hobo Yard. Look at my earlier posts and see this train.

PS, Stop by my house in mid October and I'll give a few bushels of leaves to take home, Free.
It wasn't a photo trip, but my daughter my Dad and I went on a college visit to R.I.T. in Rochester by way of Canada during October. Gorgeous color.
Well whatever you do don't come to South Texas - you will just sweat, cry, and get pictures of burned up dead grass.
Colorado for the Aspens mid Sept to mid Oct depending on weather & rainfall..
I grew up in central Pa, and was surrounded every Fall by great Fall colors. I've seen similar in NY, New England, Ohio, KY, TN, VA, Smokey Mountains. But I don't think any of them compare to Aspens changing in Colorado or Utah.
