Thank you very much, everyone! I read all your comments and did a google photo search for pretty much all of your suggestions. They are all gorgeous! It would be hard to go wrong with any of them.

Doesn't look like a single westerner has responded so here goes - Colorado, many places in the Rockies. Also the Alberta Rockies and Idaho/Wyoming in the Teton NP, etc. area.

This is sort of a narrow question and probably late for this year, but, based on your actual experience, What was your best photo trip for fall color, preferably with a number of impressive waterfalls?

Two years ago I did the Watkins Glen, New York area.
Last year I did the Ricketts Glen, Pennsylvania area.

This year I am booked for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

I want to plan ahead for future years.

Thank you.

I give you props for planning ahead and booking places to stay for the changing colors at a future time. Nothing is written in stone about the exact time that the colors will be at their best. It's all about the late winter and early spring conditions. For many of us, we stay close to home and, if possible, play it by ear. For anyone local downstate NY, take a look at the NYS link for Hudson Valley Fall Colors. This is a great resource as it is constantly updated by locals.

I'd also vote New Hampshire (since I live here) but Vermont easily matches our fall foliage. Take a trip through the White Mountains on the Kancamagus Highway in late September for the brilliant sugar maple, oak, birch and red maple colors.

Ive been going to the UP for the last 5 years. Just can't beat the color and the number of water falls is staggering. The best water fall book locations are done by Phil Stagg, a friend of mine. They are by region or you can purchase one with the best locations of all regions. They offer GPS information along with level of difficulty. Highly recommended! Not sure I will be able to get there this year as my daughter is getting married mid October and then I am headed to the Smokies later in the month. Good luck!
