I don't know about you but I really hate it when I have to pay more for shipping than the price of the item. I need a lens hood for my Nikon 85mm f/2 AI lens and KEH has it for $8.75 which is fine. But the shipping is $9.99 which isn't high but higher than the price of the lens hood.

Combine items and the shipping should be proportionally less costly. Shipping is usually based on weight and package size... with a certain minimum charge to cover handling.

Providing one has something to combine.....

Spend more and the shipping cost per item is less.
Interesting logic.

It could be the same ten bucks for several lightweight items shipped in the same container... or just a few dollars more.

You're absolutely right! It could be, just don't order heavy stuff?
Oh, wait, I only need the one thing.

Like I said, just spend more to get the shipping per item down.

Sure if I buy a Nikon Z8 from B&H I would have to pay no shipping nor even sales tax. But I only need a discontinued lens hood. About heavy stuff. I bought 2 umbrellas, 2 light stands and 2 mounts for the light stands and it cost me $69.95 and no shipping fee from B&H. They are shipped in 3 boxes. All free.

Trust me, it is not “Free”. It is included. Just not a separate line item. It cost money to ship.

Both Amazon and B&H the shipping is the same. I don't have free shipping from Amazon and it has to be over $50 to have free shipping from B&H besides it's a discontinued item so neither Amazon or B&H has it.

Maybe s friend has prime who will order it?

May be I will go to the local camera store. They have a lot of used stuff. They may have one there.

Check TEMU. I just bought a couple of rubber collapsible hoods from them and they are nice. Heavy rubber with metal screw threads. They also show a line of all-metal hoods. These are 3 to 5 dollars and the shipping is free.

I like having some rubber hoods because, unlike the tulip variety, they can be used to shoot through glass without light leakage and the rubber also acts like a shock absorber. When I go to places like zoos, aquariums, or museums there are often glass display cases to shoot through.

Also, you will find some unique items among their photo offerings. I just purchased a small item that looks like a suction cup attached to a heavy metal cylinder with a standard 1/20 screw hole in the bottom. It is used for setting one of those glass globes on to facilitate shooting. I hadn't even seen anyone else offering something like this. I have two sizes of these large glass marbles and it was always a problem with how to rest them in a way to shoot through them without picking up unwanted items in the photos. This holder can be screwed on a light stand or tripod and is small enough to be carried anywhere -- in the camera bag or a pocket The size is 1 1/4" x 3/4". It is inscribed with Lensball which is one of the makers of these glass globes.

No thanks. I want the same one that came with the lens. Not a generic one. It's the Nikon HS-10.

I use collapsible rubber Lens Hoods / Shades the same way. One pretty much needs that at an aquarium.

I have been on the fence about getting one of those Glass Globes and Supports. The effect looks interesting, but how often would I use it? Can I get the same effect with Photoshop?

Right now I have, as some on the UHH know I have been creating Kaleidoscope-like images with Corel PaintShop Pro Ultimate. I hope to soon have a real Kaleidoscope to shoot though. Probably with a SmartPhone because the pupil it too small for a DSLR / MILC lens.

Happy new year!

National retailers often build shipping costs into the price of an item, because they buy in wholesale volumes that local dealers cannot. The “free shipping” makes the retail price more attractive than getting in the car and driving to the local store for the same item price.

Used dealers seldom use that sales model. But if you buy over a threshold amount, some will cover shipping in the price. Think: Amazon Prime.
