I don't know about you but I really hate it when I have to pay more for shipping than the price of the item. I need a lens hood for my Nikon 85mm f/2 AI lens and KEH has it for $8.75 which is fine. But the shipping is $9.99 which isn't high but higher than the price of the lens hood.

Both Amazon and B&H the shipping is the same. I don't have free shipping from Amazon and it has to be over $50 to have free shipping from B&H besides it's a discontinued item so neither Amazon or B&H has it.

I would imagine since it's discontinued and needed, the added cost of shipping would be worth it.

I have had that happen a number of times, yes it is annoying and seems absurd. It was not photo stuff though.
I kind of lucked out once on a replacement lens hood. I had to call the camera brand rep. because I knew from research that there had been three versions of my lens and all three used different lens hoods. We determined that my lens was the oldest but the hood had been discontinued. He made a last check and found it was off their for sales list but he found one on the shelf so he sent it to me for free. I think I did have to pay the shipping and sales tax. I would have paid for it if need be since a generic hood would be difficult for this lens.

Not surprising given the huge increase in shipping costs over the last decade. Somebody had to pay the $150,000/year cost per driver (not including the actual truck and terminal operating costs) under the union contract.
Remember when FEDEX only cost $10 for overnight delivery coast to coast?

Yeah that's why I miss my local stores. But in this case an item that has been discontinued for a long time I can't expect to find it local.

Unfortunately, that is what happens with discontinued items. If you need or want something bad enough, you either end up paying whatever price the seller puts on it or a high shipping cost for the item.
You have to pay up to get what you want, or simply do without it.

I did without it for nearly 20 years. I actually wouldn't mind paying the price but it just bothers me a bit that the shipping is more than the cost of the item. I would feel better say if KEH charges me $20 for the lens hood and free shipping. Of course they may just do that for saying out loud.

Yup, we all feel more comfortable when the shipping is less than the product, which is normally expected.
It is a bit frustrating though.

But I used to work for a company that would buy a plane ticket from Germany for something like $1700 to fly a $40 part overnight.
