TC quality has vastly improved over the years, and now the best TCs are regularly used by sports and wildlife shooters around the world with excellent results.
The best TCs from Nikon, Sony and Canon are superb and are able to be used on both prime and zoom lenses with excellent image quality results. I have used some of the best new TCs from these brands. I have also used some of the older TCs over the decades that weren't as good for IQ.
1) My 24mp Sony A9 camera, Sony 200-600mm f5.6-6.3 lens with Sony 1.4X TC, 840mm, f9. Kids being pulled by speedboat on Brookings Lake, Manistee National Forest, Michigan, USA.
2) My 42mp Sony A7RIII camera, Sony 70-200mm f2.8 GM lens with Sony 2X TC, 400mm, f5.6. A squirrel eats a peanut candy on our National Mall in Washington D.C.

Limit yourself to 1.4x camera brand name TCs (Canon, Sony, Nikon, Fuji, etc) with appropriate lenses, and they can produce excellent results. Personally, I would avoid 2X except on fast primes (such as a Canon 300 f2.8L) designed for use with TCs..

I will speak to the excellent Sony 2X TC.
It is regularly used with excellent results on top quality Sony zooms like the 70-200mm f2.8 GM I; Sony 70-200mm f2.8 GM II; Sony 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 GM; and Sony 200-600mm f5.6-6.3 G lenses; as well as used with excellent results on fast prime Sony 300mm f2.8 GM; Sony 400mm f2.8 GM; and Sony 600mm f4 GM lenses, just a fact.
Cheers and best to you.

Hi there. I have a question for those who are using a D500 and Sigma 150-600C as well as a TC. If so what are your findings ie. I would much appreciate some feedback. Thanks in anticipation!
I don't have a Sigma 150-600C, I have the sport version, so that might change things. The D500 does not focus very fast at F8, other than that the results are fine pairing that lens and converter to the D500.

It's OK. Canon will get back up there one day.

The answer is not a T/C, the answer is get closer.

You should not use a TC with that lens. You already have a range of 300 to 900 with that APS body. You really do not need any further reach for 99.9 % of your shooting.
I strongly suggest not using a TC with that lens.

Here is another suggestion from someone that doesn't exactly answer your specific question.
However, I can recommend using what you have, crop and post process with Topaz Photo AI, Photoshop, or some other program.
Topaz Photo AI offers a 30-day no-questions-asked refund.
https://docs.topazlabs.com/I would try this approach before investing $$$ on a "Bolt-on" which may degrade your image.
Topaz offers free trials

Well it will certainly be cheaper if it can be managed

Thanks will take that under consideration!

Depends on whether you are using a mirrorless, and how sharp the lens is to begin with.
MIRORLESS makes even a 2.0 usable. And if its very very sharp to begin with in a print, you will not notice anything.
I USE an Irix 150mm macro which is wicked sharp with my Canon R5 Mirrorless with a 2x teleconverter and its still wicked sharp.

Sigma recommends the Sigma TC-1401 for the 150-600 and 100-400 lenses. But I can personally attest to your comment. Until a few years ago, I owned the 100-400 in addition to the 150-600 C. I bought the Sigma TC from a UHH seller and quickly learned a valuable lesson. Currently, I use a Canon 1.4 iii with a Canon 100-400 ii with very good results.

Don't falsely equate the performance of other brands with Canon EOS technology.
